Broxhead - 17th Sep 2018 Balloon at Broxhead (1).JPG I have visited all my local Small Copper haunts now and each time the location came up with fewer than in recent years, except that is for Broxhead. Today there were still 19 Small Coppers in and around the lek at the bottom of the hill and one ne...

Re: ernie f

Thanks, Janet and Wurzel. I got "switched on" to fungi when I lived in the New Forest some years ago and now I found they are even better near where I live now. Of course I still do not consider myself an expert and never will. To become one you have to be prepared to collect them (which I...

Re: Padfield

Guy, I don't post on your PD much but that doesn't mean I don't look at it. As the season is coming to a close let me just say this. No matter what the subject, Butterflies, Dragonflies, Birds, etc. Your pictures are some of the best.

Neil. So many Wall Browns - you are so lucky. Plus a mating pair!
Going back further in your PD page, the Copper with a blue flush to it is just like an impressionist painting.

Butterfly pics - lovely, but the Peregrine in flight - now that is not something you get to photograph every day!

Re: CallumMac

Hi, Callum. Glad to hear the Small Copper is your top fav again. I particularly liked the shot of the one you took with the glitzy copper scales on its hind-wings. I have sometimes seen this sheen but its hard to get a pic of it.

Re: Hoggers

Great Copper Shots, Hoggers (and great Pip shots too!)

I was fascinated by your head-on shot of a jousting Copper.

It is good news the Copper numbers have picked-up more or less everywhere.

Trevor. Just catching up with your PD. I had to go back a page to do it properly. I have just been noting other people's Wall Browns and saying I have only ever seen one in my life. I come to your PD and see a whole bunch of very fine pics of them. I am just so envious really. I have little chance o...

David. Now you've done it. Now I want to go to a butterfly house too. I haven't been to one for years.

Neil, love the Small Heath "Odd Couple". That was quite a find, but equally love all your ultra-sharp Grayling shots.

Re: Katrina

Love the Wall Brown pic, Katrina. I have only ever seen and photographed this butterfly once in my life. It seems I never live in places near where they are; except that one time when I lived in the New Forest and Keyhaven was not far away which is where I saw my single Wall Butterfly. At the time I...

Great Brostreaks and SSSkips, Wurzel. It seems to me you must be "catching-up". It seems like only a couple of weeks ago I was chasing SSSkips over Old Winch Hill.

Hi, Dave. Just realised I hadn't looked at your PD in a while. I ended up looking through the entire current page! Fantastic set of Wall Brown shots and you managed to capture what I had missed this year - A Clouded Yellow with wings open! I also found your sequence of Clouded Yellow shots in differ...

Hi, James. Its great to revisit summertime butterflies when you are getting into autumn. Its like reliving the season all over again. The Black Hairstreak shot is rather special though. That's not one I was able to get to see this year.

Another lovely Small Copper image, Janet.

I know what you mean when you say it takes a long time to put your year-book together. I have taken so many butterfly pics this year that my PC has just warned me I am nearing full capacity on my back-up drive!!!

Longmoor - 16th Sep 2018 Another heathland which normally harbours a few Small Coppers and so it did today. Another three to add to my count; but this is only half the number I have seen in the past. One was doing a wing-roll. I almost didn't notice because it was so imperceptible. Perhaps this is w...
