Re: Wurzel
Just saw your jumping squirrel pic, Wurzel. Amazing. We have two in our garden at the moment - a male and female I think as the male is pursuing the female and although she is not running away she is certainly playing hard to get. She moves a few paces and waits, then he follows, then she moves a fe...

I agree - I have even seen a Bee Fly in my garden yesterday and I have never done that before.
Also love the pic of woodland carpeted by anemones.

Re: Janet Turnbull
Janet, Like you I am staying in too now and like you there are plenty of maintenance jobs around the house which would in any other circumstances probably would never get done!
I found your pictures of the Comma that you took on March 25th to have a lovely soft-focus look about them. Very pretty.

Goldie, love your garden. My guess is we shall be seeing a lot more pictures of people's gardens and the butterflies that visit them in people's PD's over the coming weeks.

Re: Virus advice
Hi folks Now it appears the police are putting up sporadic roadside checkpoints to enforce the Government's instructions on "essential travel" and is turning drivers back to go home if it is deemed by them to be non-essential. Failure to comply results in a £60 fine (£30 if you pay up with...

Re: Virus advice
Folks I just watched a BBC programme which incorporated Q&A about Coronovirus and government interpretation of what is meant by "essential travel". They said it is not acceptable to travel by car other than for work, groceries and medicine. It is not allowed apparently to drive somewhe...

Re: Virus advice
My view is go short distances to places where no-one else goes (or nearly no-one else). And to make the most of it because it would not surprise me if further "measures" will be taken in due course and we shall suffer a total lock-down like some other countries have. Then its back garden b...

Re: ernie f
So the trick to this once-a-day exercise thing is to go places where no one else goes or to chose places that have wide paths. Gloria and I did our exercise walk at Alice Holt woods today - the wide path option. For one reason or another I have not been able to get out anyway this year until today. ...

Wurzel - I thought it was hilarious. Whoever went to all that trouble wrapping a public phone box for Xmas I don't know. David - I like to keep that spreadsheet up to date but as time wears on of course there are fewer and fewer updates to it. Also If anyone sees Santa before next Xmas day let him k...

Re: ernie f
Hi, I have updated my Hampshire Butterfly spreadsheet. If anyone intends to visit this neck of the woods next year, I hope this helps in any plans you might make. Hants butterfly location grid.xls Also I happened to hint to my wife that I might like a new phone for Xmas this year, but this is not wh...

28th October 2019, 9am, Sunny, around 2 degrees, Care Home at Holybourne I visit my father regularly at his care Home in the village of Holybourne. Today there was a Red Admiral flying around the outside of his window. Maybe he was looking for an hibernation site I thought, then he flew off across t...

22nd Oct 2019, At Home Haven't been able to get out much recently. Back problems amongst other things. Do you know what its like to have lumbago, sciatica and then cramp in both legs at the same time? No, neither did I until last week! It was an experience I can tell you. At least it didn't happen i...

With the current bad weather is it is unlikely that I will see any more Brown Argus this year. I decided at the start of the year to survey this species in my area and here is the result. The largest number I have ever seen in a year and the earliest I have ever seen one. I have included my previous...

17th September 2019, Kingsley Common, 3-4pm, 19 degrees, Full Sun It's usual that when the 3rd brood Small Coppers start up at Broxhead, they also come out at nearby Kingsley too. So it was today - 4 fresh ones seen. Got a duplicate shot at Kingsley today of the shot I took at Broxhead the other day...

Nice open-wing shots of the Clouded Yellow, Dave. I've have not been able to do this so far this year. I've only seen three in total and two of those were Spring fly-bys.

15th Sep 2019, 10.30-11.30am, Broxhead Heath, 16-20 degrees, Full Sun With the weather in Hampshire turning sunny and warm I thought I'd give Broxhead a try. There were 6 of the 3rd generation Small Coppers flying about and possibly more. All very fresh individuals. P1130023.JPG This female was doin...

Wurzel - My ambition now is to go to a garden centre in spring and get a picture of a butterfly on a tulip with a picture of Hebe's in the background!
