Re: March 2022
Numbers of Peacocks in the garden increasing (4) Male Brimstones battling in quite a strong Northerly breeze despite the sunshine. Holly Blues (2) and an obliging Speckled Wood sat still nicely today.

Re: October 2021
Thanks David. At least I now know that I can recognise a Meadow Brown at 10 paces and I’m finally getting to grips with at least some Blues!

Re: October 2021
A warm day and a trip to the coast in case of any late season sightings. A Blue - upperwing only - and this brown which I didn’t see fly off to see more. I’m thinking the Blue is a Common Blue? And the Brown has me stumped... it looks a bit like a Meadow Brown, but surely it’s too late? Whatever the...

Re: October 2021
More of a question than sightings... I have seen, suddenly, more than 10 Male Brimstones in one day after seeing none at all. A couple were feeding on Verbena bonariensis , but the rest were skulking/exploring/hesitating over all sorts of vegetation... Ivy, nettles, brambles. Is this some kind of ma...

Re: October 2021
No exciting Monarch sightings here. But there are still a lot of butterflies flying.
A Wall, a Small Copper, a Comma, still loads of Peacocks and Speckled Woods, and a fair few Red Admirals.

Re: September 2021
September has been the closest to ‘summer’ we got this year here! I don’t recall seeing so many Peacocks in my garden. I counted 30+ on a warm afternoon a couple of days ago. Lots of Red Admirals too, a few Small Tortoiseshell and Speckled Woods, Whites, a couple of Wall Browns, a single Comma, Smal...

Re: Help with Blue ID
Thanks Guy! I’m rubbish with Blues and although I loved seeing a ‘Common’ Blue (first this year) I’m always hoping for something less common!

Help with Blue ID
I’m thinking this is a male Common Blue - but the underwing photo isn’t great. Seen at the coast on a windy sunny day in Brittany. Thanks for any help!

Re: August 2021
I revisited the spot (Heathland NW Brittany) where I’d photographed a single Short-tailed Blue a couple of weeks ago.
I didn’t see many, but was very happy to have two pair right under my nose and didn’t care that I watched for a while.

Re: August 2021
Finally a glimpse of the sun and an uncut clover field nearby gave me three Clouded Yellows... I didn’t know which one to watch first!

Two for ID confirmation help
Hello. Two found today on a track on acid Heathland... NW Brittany.
I think I have a Dingy Skipper and a Common Blue? Any help appreciated before I post mistakenly in ‘Sightings!’ Thanks in anticipation.

Re: August 2021
Just reminding that I’m in Brittany before I say that I got my first picture yesterday, in a small window of sunshine of a Short-tailed Blue. (Please correct me if I’m wrong). On a Heathland path. A damaged female and I think she’s egg-laying on a tiny gorse shoot? When/if the sun decides to shine a...
Re: July 2021
Pleased to finally get a couple of good sightings of the Purple Hairstreaks that flit around the oaks in my garden. And also a Wall Brown. Was especially happy to see this Large Checkered Skipper as I’d thought I’d missed the chance this year.
Re: July 2021
I was pleased to get this picture of a pair of Gatekeepers. A storm on Friday with hailstones and showery, unsettled weather since then - until this evening - means that I’m still trying to photograph Purple Hairstreaks who don’t seem to want to move!
Re: July 2021
Rubbish picture, but my joy knows no bounds! Purple Emperor on the ugly concrete wall of my house in 30 degree heat. I was seeking shade and noticed a big butterfly....
Re: July 2021
Thanks Dave - glad I put the question mark in the post .
Here’s the Comma and Ringlet that I should’ve included:
