Re: Silver-studded Blues

There were a dozen or earlier in the week at Buxton Heath, Norfolk. Providing they haven't all drown in the rain today I am hoping for higher numbers this weekend.

Re: A Good Summer for Butterflies?

Here in my corner of Norfolk it has not been a very good year. It has now started to improve in the last 2 weeks. Last year we had lots of small torts , painted ladies & peacocks. This year they are low in numbers, although still time for that to improve. Small copper and common blue are both go...

Thanks for the info Vince, I promise to do my homework !
This Amigo was in a different spot than the common blues, which are not that common where I am. Will check it out when the rain stops!

Thanks

Silver Washed Fritillary

Today Our local newspaper here in Norfolk has an article on SW Frits being spotted in Norfolk. There have been 16 seperate reports in various locations. Anyone have more info? The speculation is that they may be back after a 30 year gap? That would be super :D but think I may wait before I start the...

A trip to Buxton Heath, Norfolk today. Only a few ss blues, the Heath has had some major clearence & coppicing since last year. They were very jittery so think I will give up on that for a few days. A few ringlets & skippers & a lovely pristine Red Admiral. I cannot answer to Jack in my ...

Re: June 2010 Sightings

A trip to Catfield Fen on the Norfolk Broads was fruitful with sightings of at least 5 Swallowtails. They were not prepared to have their photo taken though!! I had planned to get up early to get on site before it was too hot but kind of overslept  Numbers of butterflies in general are very l...

Re: Small Tortoiseshells

Here in my corner of Norfolk there has been good numbers of Small Torts for the last 3 years. They do seem to be emerging earlier each year?
It has been sunny but quite chilly here but The small torts have been the only butterfly apart from one lone Peacock that I have seen in the last week.

Buckthorn

I would like to plant some Buckthorn to encourage Brimstones to my garden, as it is one species that I see very few of. What I need to know is how easy it is to manage this plant?? Will I be able to keep it at a managable height or will it take over my garden? I love tree's but am not fond of very l...

As far as I know it is a new type which has just been released. There is a little info on the Thompson & morgan web site if you search for Buzz it should come up.
