A UK Butterfly Calendar 2009

Has anyone thought of a Butterfly calendar with photos from the UK Web Site? I asked Pete about it before he went away and suggested to put it on the forum for ideas. It would be nice I thought to have the winners of the monthly competitions included but no one to have two pages, so the runners up e...

Re: August 2008

Had a nice surprise to see this Wall Brown sunbathing on the wood chipping. Does any one know how exactly to use a close up lens that I bought for my camera, if you zoom it in to the butterfly the picture is totally blurred, is it a case of that the camera has to be close to the butterfly before you...

Re: Website Enhancements

Re: July 24th > Onward

Having a change from the Kodak, I have waited for ages for this close up lens on my PanasonicDMC-FZ18. I didn't find it very easy, if you try and focus up to its limit of 3feet the photo is totally blurred. I'm going to ask Panasonic if they produce an instuction leaflet for the beginner. Anyway, I ...

Re: More Male Gatekeepers than Female?

Thank you very much for all that information. This morning my usually walk with the dog along the lane, it was boiling hot and the Gatekeepers were all along the grassy banks, it was too hot to see what sex they were, for once I left them to it, there' a bit like the Walton family as you say good st...

More Male Gatekeepers than Female?

I'm sure that someone will know, why are they more male Gatekeepers than female? For every 20 male that I have seen in the past week I have only seen one female. These female's must lay an awful lots of eggs for there to be so many males.

Re: July 10th > Onwards

To-day was very hot at Nefyn and I went onto the golf course at Nefyn, there were lots of butterflies around mostly the common ones, Meadow Browns, Ringlets, Small Skippers, two Small Coppers and one rather nice Common Blue which I took loads of photos, it really was a bobby dazzler. Later at home I...

Re: July 10th > Onwards

This hay field is the perfect place for the Meadow Brown, they came last summer and they came again this summer. I allowed people to walk in it to see the butterflies and its amazing how many children and adults just don't know very much about butterflies. Its lovely to walk in but its a bit long no...

Re: July 10th > Onwards

I am waiting for a Common Blue, but I will have to cut it soon and unfortunatly it'll turn into big bale hay. I have told the farmer who cuts to stay well away from the edges and to raise the cutter in the places where I will be standing, I have an idea that it'll be me in one of the bale with the g...

Re: July 10th > Onwards

Hi Jack, I thought that your photo of the field is very interesting, I have a six acre hay field which I left so that the Meadow Browns could have a habitat which they like. I have noticed that this year the yellow flower Bird's Foot Trefoil is starting to spread at a great speed of knots, in your p...
