It...

Re: UK Butterflies 2009 calendar

It would be fair to include more photos that the ladies take, it seems a very one sided calendar. I don't include myself at all. There are a lot of excellent photos in pass competitions that have been taken by ladies. Perhaps one of the long standing ladies could choose the photos next year.

Re: October 08

Guy, you are a star. Is there a 5 spotted Ladybird. Now, my famous bottoms up photo, I took two, here's the other one. Jan Millar from the North Wales Butterfly Society has asked me if she can put it in her new book, I'm not sure of the title, Gardening for Butterflies, I think. So I thought somethi...

Re: October 08

To Perseus, Having just had a look at your butterfly blog, on the 25th Sptember there is a Small Copper on what looks like Sea Pink but slightly different, is this flower what people called Field Scabious. I thought that Scabious was blue and sea pink comes out in the Spring ,I think. Thanks Shirley

Re: October 08

Not much going on up in North Wales, one Ladybird, one Comma and one Red Admiral. I just keep looking, at least the sun sort of came out to-day.

Re: Butterfly Magazine

That not the only good photo there, a great one on the book of raffle tickets, a Small Tortoiseshell by a Mr. Pete Eeles and one or two more in the magazine by the same gentleman. Not only the Butterfly magazine but the Bird Watching magazine the same gentleman with his photo of the Purple Emperor a...

Re: S.A.D?

Hi Em, I don't do much swimming in the summer we have hundreds of visitors down here but it nice and quite in the winter, so the pool is not too busy so its nice to go once a week, something to look forward to. I like to walk the dog on the beach but sometimes she runs off if someone has a ball and ...

Re: S.A.D?

Hi Mouse, The weather for down south tomorrow is sunny and dry but up in Scotland lashing wind and heavy rain. To-day we had cold wind, so no gardening, no butterflies just work making 'things' that I do for the new year. When I am a bit low I go to the local swimmimg pool in Pwllheli, do you like s...

Re: S.A.D?

Now Dave, that's very interesting. First sooty lived for 14years, second Sooty was killed on a main road quite some distance from home, so someone told me tabby cats don't wander, so I got a tabby but she does a bit and not allowed out after 5pm, so she's giving my house hell, clawing at the wall pa...

Re: October 08

Thanks Pete, I had friendly advice, if you cannot see its eye, don't take the photo. I seemed to have gone for the wrong end!! , we live and learn.
