Re: Not Lepidoptera (Birds)

Hi Jack, Twitcher and Eccles, I have just read in one of my birdy books that the Fieldfares like windfalls but that's not what they'll find in a ploughed field but they are supposed to like berries. Twitcher, is the raptor a Red Kite, fantastic photo, can you say what camera you used? Just where I l...

Re: Not Lepidoptera (Flowers, plants)

Like your new thread Jack but when I looked at the plants yesterday I haven't a clue what they are, that's why I didn't reply.

Re: Not Lepidoptera!

Nice photo of a Green Woodpecker, I don't think I've ever seen one. I think they like lawns for ants but I'm not sure on that. This photo I've named 'house hunting'.

Re: Not Lepidoptera!

Thanks Eccles for your compliment, I was very pleased with it. I would love an DSLR camera, I'll get one one day. I like watching the Buzzards in the Nefyn area, one pair last year had four juveniles and I took loads of photos with my Kodak with a tele conversion lens but the photos were ok but I ne...

Hi Em,

It looks as though Christmas has come rather sooner that expected, lovely photos. We've had loads of very cold rain. I have noticed that Snowdon mountain has got snow on it. Regards Shirley

Re: Not Lepidoptera!

I've taken this photo from inside the house with the bird table by the window. The Kodak P712 came out for this. A Coaltit. I have been told if they are a bit pinkish they have come from Ireland, on a clear day we are able to see the Wicklow mountains so it might have come from there. Picture 004.jpg

Re: Crazy Weather

Hi Denise,

You are very lucky to see Bramblings and the Blackcaps, I have noticed a lots of Redwings eating the Haw berries, poor Blackbirds will have to look else where. We also had hailstones yesterday and its bitterly cold. I suppose Winter is on its way.

I think to-day weather will put paid to seeing anymore butterflies, wintery showers, bitterly cold and this rainbow was waiting for me as I open the door.

Re: Pupa Removal.

Thanks Susie, that's a good idea I have saved the seeds from this summer's flowers so I can sow some in the poly tunnel so the butterflies have a nice surprise when they hatch and then the cabbages come later. Shirley

Re: Pupa Removal.

I've decided to leave the Pupa where they are, the dirt when I had a good look is actually on the outside but I don't think I'll grow brassicas any more, I sow some flowers instead. I have an idea that I could possible do damage to them if I tried to remove them, I did encourage them to the garden a...
