Re: Buying butterfly pupa
Susie, what if you were to contact a butterfly farm, they have one on Anglesey you can't buy from there but maybe with their heated greenhouses if you were to buy and rear some then may be release them in their greenhouses so they can give pleasure to others in an enviroment they'd be used to. Just ...

Re: Not Lepidoptera (Birds) - 2
The Redwing above looks quite a large bird but last week I found a dead one in the greenhouse and it was so small, the red feathers were a deep red, I think it might have flown into the glass, I left the door open so they may get a bit of shelter, you can't win. I saw a big dog fox crossing the fiel...

I like your Hawfinch Eccles, camera shake is a bit of a sod, the tighter you hold the camera the more it shakes. The days are getting longer and it was a lovely day here, I can go and seek out that Curlew tomorrow, I don't really know where to look for a Hawfinch.

Hi Stu, I live on the Lleyn Peninsula, I've noticed that many Speckled Woods love the paths that lead to the cliff path, the paths are each side a old stone wall covered in ivy and always in the shade. Also in my garden which part of it is in the shade that's the most likely place to see the Speckle...

Re: Winter
Rain rain and more rain, our pond is slowly overflowing at every point. The overflow is the same level as the pond, the ditches are full and there's more rain on the way, at least we live on a hill overlooking it. :? 100_9464.jpg not actually a very good photo but I'll get a better one tomorrow. Re: Not Lepidoptera (Birds) - 2
I saw this Dunnock last week and its the first time I've managed to get a photo of it, the first photo looks as though its caught in the wire but its not, it jumps off the wall and then I'm able to get a photo of the other side of it, some sort of yellow type growth around its neck. The bird has bri...

That has to be a real goody photo even with the long lens, the Bullfinches are so timid there fly off as soon as they see anyone even in the distance. Seen any Siskins yet Eccles?

What is the breed of that duck Shaun, nice photos, I like the fishee. :) On the 24th and 25th January the RSPB are having their annual Big Garden Bird watch, forms can be downloaded from http://www.rspb.org.ukbirdwatch and then submit your results after Sunday. One hour's bird watching on either day...
