Albanian Butterflies

I found all of the attached butterflies on a trip to Albania from 26/9 to 2/10/17. Based in Tirana with all the butterflies being seen at Durres on the coast except for the fritillary which was seen on Mount Dajti overlooking Tirana. ID'd as male common blue, grizzled skipper, mallow skipper, silver...

Re: Croatian Butterflies

Thanks for the ID help - I thought the small copper was something more unusual, it looked larger and brighter than UK small coppers, must be the Croatian sun! It was odd to see "UK" butterflies in Croatia which also included small white, red admiral, clouded yellow, comma, wall and painted...

Croatian Butterflies

I saw these butterflies in Croatia along the coast at Pula in early October and assume they are common blue, holly blue and brown argus - strange to see "UK" butterflies in Croatia but am I correct? P1250348 (800x601) (640x481).jpg P1250140 (800x600).jpg P1250316 (800x727).jpg Also is this...

Re: Fritillary species

Hi Mark
Many thanks for the ID help. I saw a high brown fritillary at the same site on June 27th but wasn't sure about this individuals ID due to it being so very worn, also I thought it may have been a little late in the year for high brown.

Fritillary species

This very worn fritillary was seen on Dartmoor in Devon on 9th August, I thought it was a silver washed as there were quite a few very smart looking and active individuals seen flitting about but on looking more closely I wonder if it may be a high brown or dark green. Attached is a photo but it may...

Re: High Brown Fritillary Sites in the South West

Hi Adam Aish Tor is a very well known and good site to see both high brown and dark green fritillaries together, its on Dartmoor off the A38 near Ashburton in Devon. More details are on the Devon Butterflies website. I visited the site for the first time last year on July 1st and had a fantastic day...

Re: Small pearl bordered fritillary?

Thank you! I originally thought it was a pearl bordered fritillary but on checking previous ID posts on the forum I found the ID feature regarding the chevron placements and realised it was a small pearl bordered.

Small pearl bordered fritillary?

P1180788 (1024x768).jpg
This butterfly landed briefly in front of me at Grenofen Woods near Tavistock in Devon on Mat 14th 2016. I think it is a small pearl bordered fritillary - could anyone confirm please?
Many thanks

Re: Common or Adonis blue?

Many thanks for the ID help - very interesting, more detail than in my guide book - and a new butterfly for me.
Thanks again

Common or Adonis blue?

Sighted at Brook Down Quarry, Isle of Wight, on May 19th 2016.
I thought they were Adonis blue but think they are actually common - any ID hints?
Thanks
