Re: Benjamin

Very interesting post Benjamin ! Just as a matter of interest with the high numbers that you,ve successfully reared ,what do you do with them all ! ..............surely they can,t all be kept for breeding purposes ?.I,d love to see BVW,S flying again in Kent after their absence of a century............

Re: May 2024

A quick visit to Dungeness earlier ,mainly for a bite to eat and a short stroll along the power station fence . Saw just over 30 Small Coppers ,a couple of Small Heath and Small Whites .This pathological AB; was amongst them. P1040165.JPG Later at a local Grizzled Skipper site after a lot of searchi...

Re: May 2024

Hello Guy... Most of the local "lost" colonies of Grizzles were 75 percent(possibly higher ) either Taras or Intermedia ,and actually these sites in their "heydays " it was more unusual to see a normal Grizzle ! I recently posted an entry in a best moments thread . I once stood i...

Re: May 2024

As i,ve said before on these forums the local (mid-Kent )Grizzled Skippers have been in freefall ,and of five local sites which all used to have small but but fairly stable colonies ,one by one they,ve been becoming unsuitable . I had a couple of hours at the (probable ) last local site which i felt...

Several Hairy Hawke...

Re: April 2024

This morning at a very bright and fairly warm Dungeness (15c) we done a reasonably long circular walk ,along the power station fence ,part of the Moat and part of the trapping area . Strangely the trapping area was very quiet and most Coppers were seen along the power station fence ,82 in all . Also...

Re: April 2024

In my part of Kent the "Butterflying " has been VERY hit and miss with only a couple of days where the temperature has risen above 12 degrees C. Been trying to find a few O-Tips when the weather has allowed ..........as they,re soon gone . P1020336.JPG P1020758.JPG Tried for a few close up...

Re: April 2024

Small Coppers generally emerge at Dungeness from around the second week in April ,my earliest record is the 4th April ,but i believe they have been reported in favourable years in the last week of March ,although this is exceptional . My latest is the 5th November (5no ) and i would guess (as the we...

Re: Awesome

I,ve been pretty lucky over the last few years ,and in recent times have been lucky enough to add Long-Tailed Blue ,Queen of Spain Frit ,Gorganus Swallowtail to my British list ,and more recently Large Tortoiseshell .....all species that i once felt that i,d never find in the UK. But for me my own &...
