Small russet-coloured moth with spots

I saw this pretty moth when I was doing my butterfly count today. I'd love to know what it is - I can never find them in my books, even though they're usually in there!

There was also this browner individual nearby:

Fritillary

Is this a silver-washed fritillary?

It was in a tricky location so this was the best picture we could get.

Re: Jersey tiger moths

Are they sexually dimorphic? I've noticed that some are quite a 'dull' (hard to call it that) orange and some are very vibrant red. I haven't found anything about it online or in the few books I have. Or is there just a lot of variation?

Re: Small-ish grey day flying moth

Thank you for replying. I think I looked at some pictures of those when I was first trying to work out what they were. It seems that there is a lot of variation in markings!

Re: Jersey tiger moths

Martin!!

You are the one who got me interested in butterflies and moths! I thought it was you when I saw Hutchinson's Bank mentioned - you used to do guided walks there which I went on!

I will definitely come to the Open Day.

Small-ish grey day flying moth

Can anyone ID this moth for me, or tell me which forum I should ask on?

There were loads in the meadow where I walked my dogs in June.

Jersey tiger moths

Hello, I'm new here so I don't know how accepted it may or may not be to start a topic about moths! I just wanted to talk about the Jersey tiger moths that come into my garden and surrounding area. This is the third July that they've occurred, and I only realised today that they are Jerseys rather t...
