I hope I'm not overstaying my welcome but ….

if I'm not I would be grateful for some assistance with the two critters in the pictures please? Being a beginner at this I don't really know where Butterflies, Moths &c. begin and end! Do the two critters in the pictures qualify as Moths or something else please? They were seen earlier today on...

Re: A Moth ~ I think ….

Dear Wurzel (I have never addressed a Wurzel before!). Wow. If this is a Large Skipper the immediate assumption is that the Small Skipper must be, for want of a better word, Small! However it looks as if the Large Skipper is not actually that much larger. It seems this would be quite early? I greatl...

A Moth ~ I think ….

To my uneducated mind I thought 'Moth' upon spotting this somewhat dumpy looking character. I then wondered; might this be either a Small Skipper or an Essex Skipper? But on looking it up it seems it is too early to be one of those so I'm back to a Moth. I have attached a couple of pictures. I would...

Re: Help please with another Caterpillar ...

Dear both:

Whoooooooooops. Why did I say I couldn't link it to a Butterfly!

I have had another look at my 'Britain's Butterflies' and I can see it now.

I am alas confident this won't be the last time I make a goof of myself!

Thanks very much ~ Mike ….

Help please with another Caterpillar ...

Sorry to be a bother yet again (I have to start somewhere) but I saw this character earlier today on the Erith Marshes (by the tidal Thames).

Since I couldn't link it to a Butterfly I'm thinking Moth?

As always, a milllion thanks in advance.

A tiny Moth ~ I think …..

Sorry to bother again but I spotted this little character today; on the Erith Marshes (p/o the Crossness Nature Reserve) beside the Thames. I'm assuming she/he to be a Moth. I don't know much about Butterflies but know nothing about Moths; and don't really know where to start. Is it possible to iden...

A Small White Butterfly ….

I apologise if my question appears silly but I am new to this game; moving on from Birds to Birds and Butterflies. I see lots of Green-Veined White Butterflies locally (the Erith Marshes beside the tidal Thames) but I think the Butterfly per the attachment is a Small White Butterfly. I would be very...
