Re: Chequered Skippers at Glasdrum Wood 31st May & 1st June

If the weather is favourable...they're the two dates I have pencilled in for my Chequered Skipper "Twitch"
Will be good if there are other people about to say hello to!

Re: Overwintering Red Admirals

Still not seen a single Red Admiral here (Notts/Derbys/Lincs) despite being out most days when weather is decent...a real dearth then...especially when you compare with numbers of the other hibernators...

Ketton Quarry Info

If it stays sunny I’m going to take a trip to Ketton Quarry this afternoon to look for any early Grizzled Skipper/Green Hairstreak.
Does anyone who knows the site have any tips…or any general tips for finding thee species…
Cheers!

Re: Jasonbirder

A bit behind on my activities...not been in front of the PC much! Wednesday 9th April Was grey, chilly and breezy - not conducive to Butterfly hunting at all! Still an hour before a Derbyshire based appointment allowed me a wander up Cressbrook Dale I'll be back to look for Brown Argus later in the ...

You've certainly had some crackers in the Moth dept...
Was wondering if the fall of Saharan sand had brought any migrants through with it...it obviously has!
Best I can hope for is a Silver Y filtering its way northwards to me!

Re: Jasonbirder

Overcast and breezy yesterday - not a productive day for Butterflies, despite getting out and about in some lovely countryside! Headed for the North Yorkshire Moors National park and spent some time enjoying the fantastic carpet of wild Daffodils - perhaps if we'd headed south I might have connected...

Re: Jasonbirder

Warm and overcast here overnight (Newark on Trent, Notts) but despite the good conditions...poor results in my Moth Trap overnight... A couple of Early Grey and a Ruby Tiger . http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e119/jasonbirder/earlygrey.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e119/jasonbirder/rubytige...

Re: Jasonbirder

After being tied up during the glorious weather over the weekend...with commitments ranging from Mothers Day to Wembley to Meadowhall...the warmth and sunshine co-operated into Tuesday (April Fools Day) enabling me to get an hour or so's butterfly hunting in over lunch and between appointments... Sony DSC-HX1 Any Thoughts?

Probably too late to ask...as I've just bought one (a bit of an impulse purchase)
But does anyone have any experience/thoughts on this as a Camera for Butterfly Photography...

And following on for that...now I've got a Camera...do people have links/articles for any beginners photography tips...

Re: Jasonbirder

A sunnier day today without the cool north-easterly breeze of the last couple of days saw the mercury reaching 16 degrees. A lunchtime butterfly hunt beckoned...still looking for the last two hibernators before the end of March... A work appointment left me looking unsuccessfully for Rainworth Lakes...
