Re: Adonis Blue - Favourite Photo of 2013

Some really great photos of the Adonis Blues above^^^^^ Location was a place called Darland Banks in Gillingham. The date was the 8th of June 2013. I think this was my first ever visit to this area, i had read on the net that there were Small Blues here, so that was my target species...But as an add...

Re: Long tailed Blues in Kent

LTB(male) fly into her kitchen!!! I would express doubts that is a genuine immigrant. The larvae are well know to be pests on Mange Tout (peas)) on the Continent so maybe the lady had just bought some Mange Touts . Old records (I think it was in South's classic) refer to LT Blues being found indoor...

Re: Testudo Man

The 5th and 6th of March 2013 was my 1st sighting, both Comma and Red Admiral seen. You must have been one of the very few to see a Spring Red Admiral. I guess i must  ...i take it not many people had early red admiral sightings for 2013 then? I would say that red admirals had a very bad year...

Re: Long tailed Blues in Kent

Do we know just how far-ranging LTB sites have been? I'm aware sightings have been made in both Kent and Sussex, but have there been any more from other parts of southern England? Hi David, a few days ago i uploaded one of my LTB photographs on Flickr, then one of my contacts/flickr friends attache...

Re: October 2013

9th of October, 3.45pm, windy and not that warm at all, location was Kent. Not a butterfly, but i had great views of a Hummingbird Hawk Moth(I was at work, so no camera) I tried to take pics with my phone, but failed to focus :x The moth flew from one flower to the next, nectaring right in front of ...

Re: Long tailed Blues in Kent

Well, after failing to connect the previous weekend, this Sunday certainly made up for it :D The weather conditions were perfect, i parked up at the Monument end, and made my way down to the site, having a scan to see if i could see anything of interest on route. As soon as I arrived, both Paul and ...

Clouded Yellow eye(macro) uncropped.

For this shot, i used my Panasonic FZ45 bridge camera, with a raynox 250 macro lens attached. Camera set on macro, sub-setting "objects", no flash, handheld, auto focus, F5.6 1/640 ISO 80. Optical zoom was maxed out between 24X to 32X Apart from re-sizing down my photo to 600 X 450, this i...

Possible "Helice" Clouded Yellow.

Im still learning here  After looking through this forum for a couple of days now, ive come across the word/term Helice which i confess of not hearing/knowing about until now! I know i had a fantastic time on the 11/8/13, when i captured emerging/mating shots of the clouded yellows. But the da...

Re: The most unusual, local or rare Butterfly in your garden

That's one hell of a garden 'tick'. Im not sure if you are refering to my garden tick? or the post above mine(with the GHs) ? I'll answer anyway, and risk looking like an arrogant plum   It is great to see these WLHs in the garden, but its not easy to sight them. I spent hours scanning t...

Re: The most unusual, local or rare Butterfly in your garden

Great thread this. When i can, Im always garden watching, you just never know what might turn up. I suppose the best butterfly seen in my garden are WLHs. I first spotted them several years ago, climbed on my shed roof, and took long distance pics of them leaning into the elm leaves. At that time, i...
