Re: August 2014

Dropped in on my local "reptile patch" yesterday(1/8/14) and was surprised to see my 1st Wall Brown of the year! its also the 1st time i have sighted a Wall Brown at this location, in the 4 years that i have been observing there. Other butterflies of note were- large numbers of both Meadow...

Re: July 2014

Last Saturday(26/7/14) saw me heading for Queensdown Warren in Kent, in order to sight some Silver-Spotted Skippers! Very hot on the day, which made for some energetic butterflies on the wing! Several SSS's were seen, and a bonus in the shape of a Clouded Yellow too. Probably 2 Clouded Yellows in th...

Re: June 2014

Took my young son to Lullingstone Country Park this last Sunday(29/6/14). It was the 1st time we had visited this location...it was also the 1st time that we sighted/photographed the Dark Green Fritillary too. :D Not too far from home either, a 30 mile round trip was all that was needed. Windy condi...

Re: First post on this forum

Some very sound advice from Testudo Man :) However, I forgot to mention the main selling point of the FZ150 and 200, and that is the swivelling screen, that I'm not sure the FZ45 has! The swivelling screen is excellent for ground-level, lateral and over-the-top shots. I think that Casio proposes a ...

Re: White-letter Hairstreaks in my Kent garden!

a lovely butterfly to find in your garden ! i hope you can post some more pics of them soon :) Charles Thanks for your comment. Well, the weather improved today, so back on "garden watch". One was seen/photographed just before I went to work this morning, whilst another was seen/photograp...

Re: First post on this forum

Some good advice has already been given. With a budget of £500, i think you could do better than get the FZ45 though  that sort of money could get you an entry level DSLR, with a couple of basic lenses all in. Dont get me wrong, i have owned the FZ45 for several years now, and probably took te...

Re: June 2014

Not the best weather yesterday(14/6/14) with light drizzle on an off through the day, but a couple of breaks in the clouds did produce some brief sunshine! The day was all about the Marbled Whites though, with very good numbers showing...I reckon there could have been up to 50 seen on the day too, i...

Re: White-letter Hairstreaks in my Kent garden!

That's one hell of a garden sighting! Thanks David, and yes, to see this species of butterfly in my garden, is amazing. Ive been watching my garden like a hawk lately, knowing that they could show at any time now. I was looking out my bedroom window, when i spotted a small dark butterfly land on so...

White-letter Hairstreaks in my Kent garden!

Good to see some fresh 2014 White-letter Hairstreaks in my back garden this morning(12/6/14). I would have thought that they would have been sighted earlier than the 12/6/14(i have seen them in my garden in the last week of May) several years ago, an given the fact that reports seem to indicate seve...

Re: June 2014

Took the family/dogs for a trek around Leybourne Lakes (in Kent) today...and unusually for me, i left my cameras at home(for once) The 1st Butterfly we all sighted there, was a beauty of a Red Admiral!...I was quite excited by this, but the rest of the family didnt seem that bothered  I...

Re: May 2014

Ewyas Harold Common, Herefordshire. My third visit yesterday to enjoy the Pearl-bordered Fritillary my count on this occasion was approximately 70, I took particular notice of the underwing patterns when I was given the chance, interesting to note that the occasional individual had distinctly 'irre...

Re: May 2014

At long last...after months of searching my local areas in Kent...I have finally sighted my 1st Red Admiral of 2014!! The last time i saw a Red Admiral was way back on the 10/11/13! Hi Paul, I haven't seen one yet this year and my last one was in Dorset last September. Neil F. Hi Neil, sorr...

Re: For Sale, Wants and Exchanges

Bit of a long shot i know, but Im interested in a Nikon TC-E17ED 1.7 teleconverter. I have just bought the Nikon TC-E15ED 1.5 teleconverter, but its the 1.7 that is the best, so i would like to find one of those(sensibly priced!) of course. I dont want to pay "silly money" for one  be...

Re: Lumix FZ38 to FZ200

Good upgrade. I would be interested if you could possible show a side by side comparison of images, that the FZ38 and FZ200 produce. No pressure/rush on that though, only if you have both the time and inclination to do so  Im also toying with the idea of upgrading from my "Panny" FZ4...

Re: April 2014

Thanks very much to Ian Pratt and Lee Hurrell for your comments, cheers. Several more photos of that special little Grizzled Skipper, from the same day/session. Since the sun went behind the clouds, i kept an eye on where the grizzled skipper took refuge/landed, which enabled me to capture some nice...
