Re: August 2023
Bank Holiday Monday (just gone). Location - Cliffe Pools, Kent. Approx 7 hours out in the field. Hard going at times, but i did sight 5 Clouded Yellows. They all vanished after 1.00pm though. Most numerous butterfly would have to be Small Heaths, there were at least 75+ seen! I was hoping to see mor...

Re: August 2023
Last couple of weekends spent at Queensdown Warren, Kent. Chasing Silver Spotted Skippers (although i had my 1st SSS sighting at the end of July). As usual, this time of the year im nursing loads of Ant stings/bites for my efforts! but its a small price to pay! Typically spending 6 to 8 hours out in...

Re: replacement camera.
I will leave the poster's name out of this quote  However, last year I foolishly left my FZ300 on the roof of my car, made it halfway home(i have a roofrack) but the camera flew off the roof (going round a roundabout) an smashed badly onto the road!!!!!! beyond repair. I have never left a came...

"Twos company...threes a crowd"..................or a party!!!! depending on your views That's one of the most amazing sequences of butterfly behaviour I've ever seen, Paul. Those first couple of images in particular are quite incredible. Glad the DGFs didn't separate given it was your fi...

Re: replacement camera.
My fz200 is getting tired, so maybe I'll get an fz330 . One query though. I am concerned about touchscreen use when the screen is out in the articulated mode. Indeed, the folding mechanism of my existing fz200 is getting very 'wobbly', and that might be about to fail - hence looking ahead (I estima...

Re: replacement camera.
Paul, Thank you for your review of the FZ330. I have had an FZ150 for the last 12 years and it is struggling to produce sharp pictures any longer. Although the specification of the FZ330 isn't much different from the 150, it sounds like a good replacement for me. I would have bought another FZ150 i...

"Twos company...threes a crowd"..................or a party!!!! depending on your views  After many years of searching, i finally sighted/photographed my 1st mating pair of DGF's this Saturday. A great experience for sure. Despite sitting in the car for 45 minutes on arrival (due to ...
Re: May 2023
Both recent Saturdays spent chasing the beautiful Brown Argus, 3 locations in an around Kent, typically 5+ hours per session out in the field...best times for open winged basking were after 5.00pm onwards. Other species highlights seen, were 10+ Small Blues(1 mating pair)...just 2 male Adonis! matin...

Re: May 2023
I have seen small numbers of fresh Dingy Skippers on the wing since Wednesday, an sighted my 1st Small Copper of the season yesterday. Im up to 15 species so far for this year now, so i guess Common Blue/Brown Argus/Small Blue/Small Heath etc. should be on the wing here in Kent pretty soon?! We just...

A great session was had yesterday (Saturday) visiting 3 Kent locations in 6+ hours. Re: April 2023
Last Sunday started dull here in Kent! By the time things began warming up in the afternoon, i had to cut my visit short because of other stuff in life getting in the way! So as a result of leaving early, i sighted way more butterflies on the 30+ minute walk back to the car, than i had the previous ...

Re: April 2023
...a lovely male Orange Tip came into my garden. This time it landed on a small Daisy, so i ran in the house, grabbed a camera, came back out into the garden, but the butterfly flew over the fence an was gone!! I never learn, i should have a camera waiting by the back door, that way i wont miss a s...

Re: April 2023
Thursday 13th - Two Peacocks and a Small Tortoiseshell in Park Wood, Parkmill, Gower. Plenty of cuckoo flower but no Orange Tips (must be due any day now). Im sure you will see an Orange Tip by the weekend David. I will be looking for them on Sunday (seems the best day for me here in Kent). Next we...

Re: April 2023
That sure was a Comma 'clean-up', Paul. Talk about having them eating out of your hand! Hard enough to get two of them in the same frame, let alone three. Thanks David, yes, to get 3 in the same shot was nice. So, yesterday, i returned to the same location, an it was much of the same with...

Re: March 2023
March, for me, here in my part of Kent, is looking like a real "wash out"!!!...the rest of this month shows little signs of improvement??? Roll on April i guess! Yesterday though, i did spot this lovely Peacock in my garden, so its not all bad! Image is not cropped, cheers Paul. P1011328-c...
