Re: Map sighting near Swanage

Truth be told,i'm not entirely comfortable with it,either. But i feel a hypocrite because, while i can identify all the British species,in parts of Europe this is not the case,so a net there can be helpful,in my opinion. I agree about the Long-tailed Blues. In fact,i doubt if these Maps have any leg...

Re: July 2014

With a bit of luck today, and despite some atrocious weather conditions I managed to connect with my first ever British MONARCH at Ruckinge, Kent. It has been present 2 days now and after finding out it was still present and arranging access to the owners garden, I was treated to views as it shelte...

Re: Yellow-legged Tortoiseshell Invasion in the Netherlands!

Right folks I have been targeting expanses of buddlejas here in Northants including my own village but especially Northampton. One post industrial site in Northampton has Buddleja davidii in full flower right across the site. Sadly no luck today but quite a few peaacocks and nice to see a Holly blue...

Re: Yellow-legged Tortoiseshell Invasion in the Netherlands!

I will be keeping an eye out in both Northants and Warks checking every buddleja I see. Just heard one reported from Rutland, so fingers crossed.

Re: white letter hairstreaks in Northants

Well I know Bedford Perlieus is in the modern county of Cambridgeshire but it still comes under the old vice county of Northamptonshire VC32. So I hope people don't mind me mentioning my sighting here. At last after 4 trys, at the 5th try at Bedford Perlieus I saw 4 white letters low down feeding on...

white letter hairstreaks in Northants

Dear All, While recording a 10km square given to me by Rob Wilson the Northants county recorder for plants for the Third Atlas of the British Flora, I have been keeping an eye out for any elms large enough that could support white letter hairstreaks. I have been lucky to see them at two sites so far...

Re: Black Hairstreaks at Glapthorn

I visited Glapthorn Cow Pastures on the 14th June. I got there in the afternoon and noticed two times when it got cloudy for quite a period of time that the Black Hairstreaks came down to the blackthorn bushes in bigger numbers than when it was warm and sunny. I was the last person to leave the site...

Re: Long tailed Blues in Kent

I would just like to say many thanks to everyone here updating info as well as giving directions for the Long Tailed Blues at Kingsdown Leas in Kent. I drove from Northants overnight and got to the site in plenty of time on Sunday 6th Oct. I headed out onto the site when it was getting light. The ke...

Re: Long tailed Blues in Kent

Thanks for the recent replies. Sadly I have not been able to get to Kent yet to have a look for the Long Tailed Blues. I might join up with fellow naturalist and good friend Dave Shute from Hampshire and might go at the weekend. It is good to see everyones comments and what is being seen. Yes, a bit...

Re: Long tailed Blues in Kent

I would be interested to know if anyone sees any Long Tailed Blues over the weekend at Kingsdown. I would love to come down and see them.
