I particularly like the series of photos of the Large White stages. That close-up view is good.

Re: Glanville Fritillary - Favourite Photo of 2013
Hi all,
This one, for some strange reason, crash dived into this bush with its wings open. Peculiar!
Vitrolles, near Marseilles.
Given the limited number of posts for this topic, are these rare in the UK ?

Re: Another Grass Yellow
Web sources indicate that the Eurema genus includes some 80 species, and andersonii has 8 sub-species, so there is some choice.
Perhaps someone will be able to narrow it down further. Chris.

Re: Grayling - Favourite Photo of 2013
This tattered individual for me spelt the end of the semele season. The photo was taken on October 13, although I still spotted a couple over the following week. This one was in the scrubland on the plateau de Vitrolles near Marseilles, and was reluctantly feeding on Globularia as that was about all...

Re: Gatekeeper - Favourite Photo of 2013
Gatekeepers are exotic for me because they don't exist around Marseilles. I have had to go a fair way north to see any, either in the Massif Central or, as for this male, in Brittany (north west France) - closer to home !!! The colour seems to vary a lot compared to Wurzel's.

Hi Eric,
Great photos. Getting open wing shots of crocea is rare. What's your secret ?

Hi Marek,
Very nice photos from this summer, and interesting to see the landscape photos at the same time.
Greetings from Marseilles.

Nice photos Tony, very refreshing. I'm on the edge of my seat.
What are the climatic conditions like? Do they affect behaviour and help or hinder photo taking?

This photo is from near Marseilles. I like the transparency of the wing - the sunlight must have been strong that day.

Re: Dark Green Fritillary - Favourite Photo of 2013
I've never seen a DGF around Marseilles, and I had to get a bit further north into the Massif Central, the Corèze départment, before I saw my first one. This is it but it was from last year (I hope I've identified it correctly). It may be a while before I see another.

Hi Russ,
I'm looking forward to next year as well. We're going to have to hibernate for the next 4 months first.

Re: Central France into North-East Spain.
Hi Russ, its been a pleasure following your trip.
Any plans for next year yet?
I suggest the Alps for butterflies, although that doesn't always suit all the family.
Hi JKT, +8°C ?? positively warm I imagine for your neck of the woods.
No sign of Rudolph yet then !
Cheers
