This is all I've got for Large Blues from 2 years ago (my first butterfly season) in the Savoie region of France.

Re: Large Skipper - Favourite Photo of 2013
This was my first and only encounter with a Large Skipper, in the Massif Central in France, July 18. I managed to get a top and underside shot of the same individual without running around, that's what I call an efficient photo session - I wish they were all like that!

Hi Tony,
Search on the Web does appear to show it as the Oriental Cornelian.
Nice photo.

Re: Holly Blue - Favourite Photo of 2013
Hi David, Eagle-eyes, I wondered if someone would pick up on that. It is true that the markings are less distinct on the one from the Massif Central, further north, and altitude 900 m, compared with the one from Marseilles, 7 km from the Med. and 80 m altitude. The photo of the individual in Marseil...

Here is a Heath Fritillary from the Alpes de Haute Provence. I don't see these in Marseilles.

Re: Holly Blue - Favourite Photo of 2013
Here is one Holly Blue from Marseilles and another from the Massif Central (further north). They don't seem to open their wings much down here, perhaps because its generally warmer? An open-wing shot is on next year's wish list. Chris argiolus Marseilles 6 October 2013.JPG argiolus Massif Central 13...

I can't match the quality of all these magnificent photos above; I can see I've got my work cut out for next season. We don't get HBF around Marseilles, but I got a photo of this one further north in the Massif Central. Chris.

Re: Green Hairstreak - Favourite Photo of 2013
I post this pristine, male green hairstreak with much sadness. The entire site (in Italy) was bulldozed in July. I think females do wander in search of places to lay, so with luck his genes might still be passed on. http://www.guypadfield.com/images2013/rubi14april2013b.jpg Guy Hello Guy, Which mod...

I wish you all a very enjoyable get-together tomorrow. It would have been a pleasure to meet you - some other time perhaps.

Great Papilio photo Tony. The unfortunate mouldy spider reminds us that there must be many horrible ways to finish your days in the jungle!! Take care

Thanks Roger, that's great. These skippers are all so alike to unexperienced eyes.

Re: Green-veined White - Favourite Photo of 2013
I'm afraid this photo was from last year. I don't seem to see many down my way, or is it that I don't manage to distinguish them from other whites?
Anyway this one was swaying wildly in strong wind so I was lucky to get a photo at all.

Re: Green Hairstreak - Favourite Photo of 2013
Here is a Green Hairstreak from near Marseilles. This was my first Lycaenid to appear in 2013. Down here they flew from the last week of March to the last week of May and were quite numerous this year. Has anyone ever managed to get an open wing shot of a GH? - that's on my wish list for 2014. Re: Grizzled Skipper - Favourite Photo of 2013
This is my only photo of a Grizzled Skipper (at least I think it is one - tell me if it is not).
It was taken in the Alpes de Haute Provence last summer.

Tony,
Perhaps I should have limited myself simply to suggesting Orange Gull Cepora judith , as there appear to be 30 or so subspecies.

Re: Philippines Blog
Hi Tony,
Lovely pics. I spent a few minutes on the Web and was quite chuffed to come up with this butterfly which looks most similar to your Pierid :
Orange Gull (Cepora iudith malaya).
And that Great Eggfly looks brill.
