Re: Maximus
Thanks Andrew, Wurzel and David. A Fieldfare in the garden When the beast from the east struck in March this year, we were privileged to have the company of this lovely bird for the three days that the snow lay on the ground. We provided him/her with a diet of apples which were readily consumed. Any...

Re: Orange-tip - Favourite Photo of 2018
As I seem to have missed out on Orange-tips this year, I'm going to cheat (am I the only one)? and substitute a shot taken last year. It needs to be in a cool dark place, away from central heating, so that it can continue it's hibernation until Spring.

Hi Paul,
Have you any idea that mature English Elm has survived at East Tisted? Do you think it's due to it's isolation, or it's resistance to DED?

Hi Paul,
Looks like the Cycad Blue, (Plains Cupid) Clades pandava, apparently a fairly recent arrival in UAE.

Thanks, Wurzel, you're always very generous with your comments :D I'd like to drive through France again, but be a bit more informed about where to visit, and decide exactly what species I'd like to see :) Like the Woodland Brown and Alcon Blue, for example  After leaving the Brenne we drove t...

Thanks BB, and thanks for the ID. Thanks, Wurzel, the shot of the SWA was taken through a hedge, as I couldn’t easily get around to the other side without disturbing the butterfly. Thanks, David, yes the female Sooty Copper was very fresh. Hi, Old Wolf, France is a beautiful place to visit, with ast...

Re: CallumMac
Nice shots of the Grey Seals, Callum, it must have been quite a sight to see them in such numbers. I've read that despite their numbers dropping to about 500 in the early 20th century, it's estimated that there are now more than 120,000 grey seals in Britain, representing 40% of the world's populati...
