Re: July 2014

Good afternoon UK B'ers, I am still yet to snap a DGF but hope I can do so before their time is through. I managed to get a picture of a very obliging Brimstone and a busy pair of Brown Argus (Argi for all you latin fans), or at least I think they are! Please feel free to confirm or deny. 2014-07-27...

Re: July 2014

Hello UK B'ers

A very brief trip Scotland produced a lifer for me in the form of a Scotch Argus! :D :D

This was about the only time it sat still long enough to get a record shot, but a really beautiful flutterer nonetheless.

Re: July 2014

Hi UKB'ers Very jealous of all the WLH sightings and am yet to find one! My tally of species in the garden for 2014 has now hit 20, although the 20th was a fritillary which zoomed around and disappeared before I could id it; either a SWF or DGF. The conditions were particularly good for ge...

Re: Willrow

Hi Bill, Two great reports and a definite target species for me next year as I suspect that they are doe for this season. :( I am yet to get stuck into the chasers and dragonflies but will do so once I have completed my hair brain mission to photograph all the UK species on my mobile! I am now up to...

Re: Wurzel

Hi Wurzel! Congrats on the Large Blue and as ever some great pictures. I love the open wing shot! :D With all that taking it in turns malarky, I cannot recommend enough that you and Philzoid make a trip to Daneway Banks at Sapperton. I know I keep going on about it, but it really is an amazin...

I think your ducks are female or juvenile Mandarin ducks.

Love the pictures of the damsels, skimmers and chasers.

Re: MikeOxon

Hi Mike, The hibernaculum was an extraordinary sight to behold and thank you for educating me on the technical term! I met a local called Mark who told that there are two spots where the WLH have been seen, but I wasn't sure about the exact location. He said that there were two elms next two ash tre...

Hi Wurzel,

DGF's galore! I can't seem to find them at the moment but as we are relatively early I am hoping that they will start to appear.

Re: CJB

Hi Wurzel,

Apparently the latest version of WMS (2014) is available for either download or purchase from the Apple Store.

It does have a habit of crashing when exposed for too long to the World Cup.

Hi Willrow,

Great pictures of the Heaths, which is one I am yet to see!

It will take a rebooting of my WMS (Wife Management System) before I can head to Exmoor!

Re: CJB

Hi Jason and Bill, That sounds somewhat worrying and I am sure that those in authority would like to know about these 'moth'ers', which I can't help feeling is an abbreviation!! That cocoon was about the length of a large beer can and it was crammed full of cats, so there will be no shortage ...

Re: CJB

Hi Bill,

Thank you for the id on the cats; I couldn't believe how many there were and the fact that they were all in that huge 'web'.

So chuffed with the LB; amazing to have them on my doorstep.

Re: CJB

Hi UkB'ers I couldn't resist another trip to Daneway this afternoon and it didn't disappoint. I would say that I saw at least 10 individuals in 4 different areas within the reserve, including a very fresh one which I failed to get a picture of. However the mobile managed to snap this particular flut...

Re: MikeOxon

Good morning Mike! Once again thank you for helping me locate the LB; an amazing lifer! I gather that there are WLH's at Daneway and wondered if you knew where they are? I am trying to drop in there this afternoon and would love to find them! Imagine if I can catch up with a DGF as well! :D :D :D I ...

Hi Jason,

I am chuffed for you that you had success at Daneway and it sounds as though you had a very similar experience to mine, especially the numbers of Marbled Whites and hardly anyone else around. :D :D :D

Hi Nick, Thank you for your compliments! If you have any chance of getting to Daneway, I cannot recommend it enough. There never seems to be many people around and it is literally awash with butterflies. If you do go, let me know and I will try and point you towards the LB's. I am still blown away b...

Re: MikeOxon

Hi Mike, I just wanted to thank you for the pointers at Daneway which led to my seeing 3 LB's and a lifer, which was amazing and mainly down to you. Large Blue.jpg I also had my 17th species in the garden at home which was a marbled white, which came as a huge surprise. I am keeping my eyes peeled f...

Re: Collard Hill or Daneway Banks?

I have dropped in a few times and have very rarely seen more than one other person.

I can point you towards the top bank above the inn, which is where I saw my LB's.

I look forward to hearing your reports.

Flutter on!
