Re: Long-tailed Blue

Gentlemen,

Thank you for your thoughts and responses. I understand now why there haven't been many reports this year! I thought the weather would favour an influx.

Flutter on!

Long-tailed Blue

Good afternoon UKB'ers, It seems as though there has been very little mention of LTB's this year and I wondered if that was due to a lack of sightings or due to a concerted news black-out to prevent 'collectors' visiting sites? There was one mention recently, but that has been it. With September bei...

Re: CJB

Good morning Mike, Sadly last night was the last time I can fish as the season is now over! I know exactly where you are talking about on the Ebble. I am lucky enough to have access to the Colne below where I live on a stretch that hasn't been fished for 20 years!? It is plagued by American Signal C...

Re: September 2014

Hi UKB'ers, I had a quick check of the garden with some good results over the weirdly warm/hot weekend. 4 commas was a nice surprise and they looked remarkably fresh. One of them is much darker and larger and has more pronounced edging to it swings; is this the darker form which has a name that I ca...

Re: Wurzel

Hi Wurzel, I am relieved to have my trout identification backed up! This evening I am going to be eating this beauty who I caught last night and shows you the main differences between Brown and Rainbow. IMG_2930.JPG Apologies Wurzel for replying and not mentioning butterflies but I will put that und...

Re: Trevor

Welcome aboard Trevor! You have posted a species I am yet to see (Wood White), so well done there. :) I am on a quest to photograph all the UK species on my mobile and am up to 49, so a few to go yet. Once I have succeeded I will move to a decent camera! I hope you enjoy using this site. F...

Re: Wurzel

Good morning Wurzel and fellow Reef Fan! At the risk of being pedantic your trout is a stunning Rainbow Trout! The bright pink is the give-away, Brownies tend to be more golden with red and black spots. V impressed by the Meadow Brown, which has vanished from my garden patch and having read r...

Re: September 2014

Good morning UK B'ers,

A good tally in the garden this weekend:

1 pristine Brown Argus, 1 pristine Small Copper, 1 worn Common Blue, several Small Tortoiseshells, Red Admirals, Large Whites, Small Whites and Speckled Woods.

Is the Brown Argus unusually late?

Flutter on!

Re: September 2014

Good morning all UK B'ers, Having seen only one small copper in my garden at the very beginning of the season, I saw a fresh one this weekend. Lots of Speckled Woods, Small Torts, Red Admirals, Large Whites, Small Whites, G-V Whites and with another good week of weather ahead, the season may just ke...

Re: Nomad

Hi Nomad, I am lucky enough to live 25 mins from Sapperton and went to Daneway a few times this year when I was lucky enough to see the Large Blue. It is a wonderful site and I have championed it this year when I have had the chance. It is a great site and hardly anyone goes there, which is as good ...

Awesome pics of the BH's. I have tried in vain to find them around me (Gloucs) but hope that my quest will be rewarded one day.

Re: Wurzel

As ever Wurzel, your pictures push me to get a proper camera, but being a stubborn mule I won't do it until I have taken all the UK species on my iphone. I managed to increase my tally with the Large Blue this year, but still no DGF or WLH this year. At the rate I am going it seems as though ...

Re: Butterfly questions.

Hi Pete, Early on in the season in my neck of the woods it seemed that there were hardly any Red Admirals to be seen, but this last weekend they were everywhere with up to 20 occupying one large buddleia. Similarly there have been large numbers of Peacocks and Small Tortoiseshells round my way. I am...

Re: CJB

Thank you Wurzel and wise words about more possibles to come; I heard on the Radio that they are expecting it to stay mild until November. I tried to emulate your ability at catching dragon-flies/darters on camera and couldn't get anywhere near them, which highlights just how good your picture was! ...

Hummingbird Hawkmoth

Good morning UK B'ers, I have returned from two weeks in Cornwall and thought I would share my best picture (taken on the mobile) together with reports of all things fluttery. I saw quite a few different species and rather than resorting to photographing them, I made a mental note instead: 1.Common ...

Re: Pete Eeles

Hi Pete,

I got a lifer SA a couple of weeks ago.

They are stunning to see, although in the flesh they seem to be more black with red spots than the camera depicts.

Great piccies.

Flutter on!
