I was going to submit a v.close up shot of a Silver-spotted skipper, but as Gruditch, beat me to it, last Month, i decided to go for a different theme this Month. I know it's not a good picture, but at Darwen, it took ages for me to get a good picture of a Wall, as they are really flighty, and this ...

Hi everyone. I just thought i'd share that i prefer to use a Compact (Sony DSC-W55) camera, as the macro is fantastic on it, and as it is much smaller, you don't end up scaring away a Butterfly so easy, and you can get really close. Also if i wanted to take long-range shots with my Compact, i just f...

Hi Dave,
To get your pictures aligned horizontally, you just put each image code end to end, when you are creating your post.

So e.g.
--------------------------(url)(url)--------------------------(url)(url)----------------

Hope this helps.

Today i found 2 Holly blue in my Garden, they were hanging around a Holly tree, so maybe they were thinking about it for next year. Aston rowant, Yoesden bank & Holmefield wood - 9th Augus

On the 9th of August i was down in Marlow, so i visited the three places in the title. At Aston rowant, butterflies and Wildflowers were everywhere, more then i'd ever seen before, and i got lots of great pics. There were lots of SSS's on the wing, and one very un-shy individual, giving me the shots...

How about St. Abb's head, meant to be good for Argus and Blues (not been myself), and not sure what's around at the moment, but it might be worth a try?

Thanks David,
I have read about Silver-washed fritillaries being at Whitbarrow, but i haven't heard anything about them being at Gaitbarrows. In this area, Warton crag must surely be the Southern most area for the Silver-washed fritillaries, as there aren't any reports from below there (are there?)

Can anyone tell me if the heavy rain and flooding around Buckinghamshire, and Oxfordshire - not necessarily around the Rivers - has affected the Butterflies in these areas, as i am coming down in August to try and seek some of the specialities around there out.

Thanks,

Nick.

Hazelmere - My local patch

Hazelmere, a few open fields nearby to me, is one of my local patches, and it has long meadow (wild flower) grassland in the summer. I only started watching it in the winter, and now it is summer i decided to go back today, to see what Butterflies were around. There were hundreds - 50+ Small white, ...
