On Tuesday 9th, I was Kent bound. After spending an enjoyable morning at Emmetts garden, I headed the short distance to Trosley country park for the afternoon. Those are the first Wood White pictures I’ve seen, Pauline. Were they at Chiddingfold Forest, Botany Bay complex?

Those dead heads are lesser knapweed, of hardheads. If present, Dingy Skippers will almost always use them, in my experience at least. But anything dead or brown seems to suffice!

Hi Edward, You might be slightly early for Marsh Fritillaries, but I have found them, not surprisingly, in the marshy, flat areas, where the caterpillar foodplant, Devils bit scabious, grows. I like the Torts as well. They are present here, but in low numbers. I think last years drought did for them here. With the lush growth on nettles, let’s hope they bounce back in early summer.
