Glorious images there Trevor.
I’m hoping to catch up them this year, having missed them in Cornwall last year.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a picture of the Inky Skipper on these forums. Well done!
And the Greenish Black Tip. What a sighting!
Fabulous stuff.

Re: essex buzzard
Tuesday 16th. With a bright morning and increasing cloud forecast, I got an early start and, despite lots of traffic, arrived at Bison Hill, Whipsnade, by 9.15am. The main target here were the Duke of Burgundy and the Green Hairstreak, but with a good supporting cast of other species. It didn’t take...

Hi Neil, looks like you made the most of your time down there.
An enjoyable read, and some excellent images to go with it.

Thanks Goldie. I’ve not been to Blue Bell Hill, so I look forward to seeing your discoveries!
Thanks Neil, yes, he has quite a pronounced border. Still the only one I’ve seen.

CH is looking very lush this year, Guy. Though I’m sure a bit of sunshine wouldn’t go a miss...
Things have at last improved over here now, allowing spring to get properly underway.

Well I think that’s an excellent sequence Pauline, well done.
And well done for getting it back to Noar Hill so quickly.

Re: essex buzzard
Thanks Trevor, that was the best day I’ve had so far. Thanks Wurzel, it was good to get into double figures for the first time! Thanks David. I love Grizzled Skippers. Perhaps I need to move to France, where there are 10 or so different Species! Hi Goldie, Trosley is probably about 50 minutes drive ...

Re: Goldie M
Hi Goldie, I was in north Kent today and I agree, it was flipping freezing! Alan has kindly left you some excellent information about Grizzled Skipper on my page, and I have similar information in my Kent butterflies book, as advertised on UKB before Christmas. I was hoping to check these sites myse...

Re: essex buzzard
On Tuesday 9th, I was Kent bound. After spending an enjoyable morning at Emmetts garden, I headed the short distance to Trosley country park for the afternoon. My first target was Grizzed Skippers, which were actually found quite easy, with reasonable numbers seen. What gorgeous little butterflies! ...

Those are the first Wood White pictures I’ve seen, Pauline. Were they at Chiddingfold Forest, Botany Bay complex?

Re: Pauline
Those dead heads are lesser knapweed, of hardheads. If present, Dingy Skippers will almost always use them, in my experience at least. But anything dead or brown seems to suffice!

Re: RFI Breney Common, Cornwall
Hi Edward, You might be slightly early for Marsh Fritillaries, but I have found them, not surprisingly, in the marshy, flat areas, where the caterpillar foodplant, Devils bit scabious, grows. Once you’re on the site, you need to follow the path, through some willow scrub, to reach the open, wet area...

Re: essex buzzard
The north Essex anemones were a little late appearing this year, and it wasn’t until 17 April that the weather was suitable for a visit. Numbers seemed slightly down on last year. Perhaps last years drought has had a temporary effect. However, these lovely, simple flowers were a still sight to behol...

Re: Neil Freeman
I like the Torts as well. They are present here, but in low numbers. I think last years drought did for them here. With the lush growth on nettles, let’s hope they bounce back in early summer.
The Orange Tip on the white Spanish bluebell is rather nice, too.
