Aish Tor

I'm after a bit of advice, guys : last year I saw my High Browns at Heddon's Mouth, Arnside and Whitbarrow; this year I'd like to try other sites. Aish Tor has been mentioned as a good site but I've never been there. Any advice on visiting this site and whether it's good for High Browns? Are there a...

Re: March 2012

Gorgeous day down here in Kent and even more so because I found my first Small Tortoiseshell and Peacock of the year. I saw a Red Admiral in January so I'm now looking for a Brimstone and Comma!

Re: Sightings january 2012

I have just had my Flabber well and truly Gasted! I'm in Ashford, Kent and we've had a long run of very mild but dull and wet weather. This morning has been different with a blue sky, warm sunshine but a rather chilly breeze. I took the dog out over some near-by farmland and as I approached the rive...

Re: November 2011 sightings

My 2011 butterfly season is still going strong : I saw a Red Admiral this morning flying in warm sunshine outside the Quaker Meeting House in Ashford, Kent. Marvellous!

Re: November 2011 sightings

Red Admiral in my garden again this afternoon. Looks so much like the one i saw yesterday that i'm sure it's the same butterfly. I don't know what the attraction for it is here but it favours the Bamboo patch where it sits in the sun.

Re: November 2011 sightings

Wandering around the garden this afternoon ( I'm in Kent ) I saw a Red Admiral sunning itself. I nipped inside, found my camera and got back out just in time to take some photos before it flew away.

Re: Canon EOS 7D

Cheers guys, very helpful indeed. My first reaction is that I'm best off with a simpler camera - I enjoy taking the photos but I'm not much in to the more technical aspects of photography ( not at the moment anyway )

Thanks guys

Canon EOS 7D

Hi everyone, I need some advice and would be grateful for any help given.

I'm thinking of buying the canon 7d : is it any good for butterfly photography?

What would be the best lens to use with it for general use in the field?

Many thanks

Re: October 2011 sightings

Lovely warm afternoon for a stroll around Dungeness : I saw five Red Admirals, two Small Whites, a Peacock and then much to my delight, two male Common Blues by the power station wall. Some real living colour in a unique setting.

Re: October 2011 sightings

A few hours of warm sunshine today down here in Kent brought me a Red Admiral, Speckled Wood, Peacock and around ten Small Whites.
On an Ornithological note, I've seen my first Redwings of Winter too.

Re: September 2011

I've had little luck with Clouded Yellows this year but today made up for it ( well, sort of ) with a Yellow Cloud.. of Hornets. As I walked through my local wood they were everywhere and it wasn't hard to find the nest high in an Oak. P1000611.JPG They look tough . But then I saw this Speckled Wood...

Re: September 2011

I've been lucky and already seen one Clouuded Yellow this year but have been out searching for others recently. Today I had a couple of hours at Folkestone Warren ( Kent ) in glorious weather. I didn't see any Clouded Yellows but there were at least 14 Red Admirals all in beautiful condition and a s...

MacBook Pro iphoto

If anyone out there uses a MacBook Pro and iphoto can they help me with this please? How do I reduce the file size of the photographs I take? They usually start at 5mb and the only way I've found to reduce this to, say, 500kb is to crop right down. Is there another way as cropping seems to result in...
