Re: Mark Colvin

Hi Pauline, First you see it, then you don't! What happened to your last pic Mark? It appeared, then re-appeared with a different date - and now it's gone completely. Perhaps I just imagined it. No, you weren't seeing things. I did post it twice, having entered the wrong date the first time. I then ...

Hi Mike,

Re: 5 Butterflies and a Moth to ID please

Hi Paul,

In order of appearance:

Common Blue (female).
Difficult, though I'd go for Essex (male).
Difficult again, but either Essex or Small (female).
Clouded Buff (Diacrisia sannio).
Brown Argus (male).
Adonis or Chalkhill (female).

It's not always easy from a photo.

Hi red dog,

That's no Long-tailed Blue. What you have found is an equally as impressive Geranium Bronze (Cacyreus marshalli).

Well done ...

I'm not convinced this is a good idea.

There are plenty of websites and forums dedicated to fungi and would suggest that that such topics are best discussed in such areas. UKB is after all UK 'Butterflies' ...

Re: Clouded yellow identification.

It may be useful to point out that over the last couple of weeks there has been a steady trickle of Clouded Yellows, Colius croceus , appearing at Kithurst Hill; including a single Colias croceus croceus f. helice , which was seen and photographed by myself and Colin Knight after Colin's original di...

Hi Bill.

A difficult one as the most useful diagnostic feature, the antennae, are not clearly visible. For me this is an aged female Essex.
