Sharpenhoe Clappers Saturday 14th July 2007 Pics
I already reported what I saw in the Field Trips forum. But if anyone wants to see pics I have uploaded 18 pics to http://piccies.flybywire.org.uk/ButterfliesMoths/index.html I got very few DGF pics despite there being scores of them. The main factor being they were rather active in the warm sunshin...

Well done! Good shot. Meanwhile if you want Marbled White Sharpenhoe Clappers is the place to be. Hundreds of them everywhere on the Eastern slopes. Even while I was lunching it on the windy Western slopes I was being buzzed by them while I ate. Awesome. Scores if not hundreds of Dark Green Fritilla...

Sharpenhoe Clappers Saturday 14th July 2007
Hello there. I went riding today out in the Chilterns on the motorbike. I was planning to stop at Sharpenhoe for lunch anyway, but when the weather turned out much better than I expected I ended up wandering for 2-3 hours until I ran out of food, water and stamina. The best area was the Eastern slop...

Yeah nice pics again. :) I went for a short walk across the meadows yesterday too. Most of the walk was in rain, but didn't stop 100's of Meadow Browns keep on the wing. Once the sun came out so did the Marbled and a few others. Unfortunately so did a huge swarm of those horse flies. That was horrib...

Nice pics! Wish I had the zoom that you do. I never saw the PH's closeup. After the walk ended I thought I'd take a quick peek at where we first saw the WLH and PH on the tree before going. On a nearby sunlit bramble patch I found two nectaring, and got close. Best pic: http://piccies.flybywire.org....

I've only ever seen one Lime Hawkmoth. Back in June 2004 at Stockley Park, at lunchtime resting in the shade on a bush. I managed to get a pic though: http://piccies.flybywire.org.uk/ButterfliesMoths/2004/20040607/LimeHawkMoth.jpg But your pics beat mine hands down. Ever since then I have had a soft...

lol! Yeah closeups of skin always make it look strange, even if the hair is fairly thin. Hairs always look dramatic when closeup. I'm guessing you are follically challenged then? :P Atleast last year's Heath Fritillary chose my finger... http://piccies.flybywire.org.uk/ButterfliesMoths/2006/20060616...

So that's a tag?
Heh that mark looks familiar! I didn't put it online but one of my Ruislip Heath Frits has an almost identical marking on it's starboard wing. At the time I thought it was just damage. So perhaps I should report mine too? The pics that did make it online ar at http://piccies.flybywire.org.uk/Butterf...

My most interesting Brimstone shot was when I was observing a courting pair. After snapping the female wings open on a fence wire it dived into the grass. I put my hand nearby and the male landed on me twice! That was a surprise... Tatty courting female: http://piccies.flybywire.org.uk/ButterfliesMo...

Here's my entry for June. I was tempted to put in a Heath Fritillary from the 12th or a Black Hairstreak from the 17th. But I think this Painted Lady is my best shot of the month so far. In fairly good condition and basking nicely in increasingly cloudy conditions on the 8th. http://piccies.flybywir...

So how does that work then? Is there a detector on the slave flash that detects another flash about to go off? Is it possible you could trigger multiple slave flashes that way (like a chain reaction)? Will any camera set off a slave? Or does yours have a particular ability? Was wondering as he does ...

Whoops
Sorry I guess my brains were scrambled by work overload when I sent that post. It didn't land on me at all! We found it in the shade cold and not moving. After other people attempted and failed to move it I placed my finger near it and it happily crawled aboard. I tried to place it on bramble blosso...

My pic of the day from Glapthorn
Well Jack caught me 'cheating' after a BH landed on my finger. Here is a link to the picture that I took. Depsite slightly soft focus at the top of the image I'm pretty pleased with the result! http://piccies.flybywire.org.uk/ButterfliesMoths/2007/20070617/BlackHS4b.jpg Images are on my website alre...
