Re: May 2019

Lots of Small Blue at Hutchinson's Bank in New Addington today. And during a period of sunshine a single Glanville Fritillary. Lovely shots Andrew, especially the Glanville underside! I went to Hutchinsons Bank on Sunday afternoon - it was too cloudy for Glanvilles but I did see about 20 Small Blue...

Swallowails flying in Norfolk yet?

Hi,

Does anyone know if the Swallowtails are flying in Norfolk yet? I'm thinking of going up there on the weekend of June 1st/2nd. Are there likely to be many around then?

Thanks

roosting blues

Hi,

I'm not very good with separating roosting Adonis and Common Blues. Can someone please tell me which these are? I'm fairly sure the last one is a female Adonis. Are the others all Common Blue?

While in Sussex, it would be rude not to pop in at Mill Hill, where several Grizzed Skippers have emerged. It was also nice to see Alan W down there as well. Hi Mark, I think you mean John W :D Nice pictures of Orange Tips btw! Here's the best of the Grizzlie pics that I got: 08-04-2019 - 1.jpg 08-...

30th March 2019 - Billingshurst My first proper outing of 2019 took me to Billingshurst in Sussex in search of Orange-tips Hi Andrew, I went to the Billingshurst lanes on Saturday too. I arrived at about 1.15, and mainly stuck to the meadows on the east side of Rowner Road, shortly before the T-jun...

I often see these gliding past in Chiddingfold forest but for some reason they don't seem to settle very often there. Luckily this one did!

Re: Swallowtail - Favourite Photo 2018

I didn't go to Norfolk at the right time for Swallowtail butterflies this year but I did see this fine plump caterpillar while on a trip in search of Graylings later in the year.

Nice one Goldie :)

This was taken on a dull and damp day in August at Steyning rifle range, when it was too cold for the Brown Hairstreaks to make an appearance :(

Re: Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary - Favourite Photo 2018

I had to wait nearly an hour for this one to close its wings on a lovely warm May evening.. Been there myself, John, although never for quite as long as an hour! :) I just checked the time on my photos - I first spotted it basking at 6.29pm, but it didn't close up fully till 7.20pm. I did disturb i...

Hi Trevor,

I saw a primrose in Madgeland Wood on Saturday (26th Jan). Which was a lot earlier than last year, when I didn't see any till March!

Re: Silver-spotted Skipper - Favourite Photo of 2018

After unsuccessfully chasing them on a boiling hot day on tiring, steep ground I decided to sit down by a likely flower head and wait for one to settle. And to my surprise, one did, for about 2 seconds, and I just managed to get this shot. After viewing it on the camera LCD I decided I wasn't going ...
