Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

I continued searching the nice biotopes in my neighbourhood, focusing on upland meadows and slope juniper pastures used to be grazed for centuries by the ancestors. The places both look and smell great, some of them have the characteristical elements (anthills with thyme, local Carpathian flysch lan...

Re: Sussex Kipper

This diary is pretty good photographically and sometimes very interesting (epiphron in the land of William Wallace :D) In CZE, the species thrives in alt. ca 1 200 - 1 500 beyond the forest limit (?! is that correct) and also flights a bit later - together with local and scarce E. sudetica Lower it ...

Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

This year, Brenthis ino activated around June 15 (2012: May 29) but seems to be more and more numerous year in year. That can be explained with expansion of filipendula ulmaria but there must be some breaking point of ingrowth. I believe I will know more in the on-coming decades  Large Skippe...

Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

I'm clearly more butterflying than writing reports these days, so this brief post to fill the gap: • Visiting Havraníky Heath and the surroundings (alcetas, dispar and mnemosyne among others crammed at one site, I'd love it) • Monitoring in two large villages in Eastern Beskydy Mts., today and yeste...

Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

I love the woodland brown shots. This species is quite common in my part of Switzerland, even though it is more generally rare - but it is very difficult to photograph! I think it has good ears. The autofocus on my last camera was too loud for it and it would invariably fly off just as I took close...

Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

I migrated to South Moravia in July 8-9 once again, being astonished at visited biotopes and even relatively (but not ultimately) satisfied with the photos. The site-list mainly consist of: • Havraníky heath, Podyjí • Pod Šobesem, Podyjí (+ Dyje river canyon surroundings) • Hodonínská doubrava, Hodo...

Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

Thanks for your (for me a bit surprising) interest, guys. I can assure you I'm 100% safe now, just as whole Silesia and majority of Moravia. As for the floods, Czechs absolutely deserve it. Who lives with the sword dies with the sword. I'm talking about massive meliorations, forestry changes, narrow...

Re: Padfield

I was just curious how the current flood situation does look like in Switzerland, Guy?

Does everything begin and end with "Gross Wasser" in your media just like here?

(Despite of this I'm still aground and even saw the sun for a few minutes today )

Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

Looks like you just damned our weather forecast, Guy...

Anyway, here's my first 2013 Common Blue from the transect site, frozen and probably a bit drenched but apparently new-born. Since I totally lacked the sunlight, I leastwise fixed the straw behind the electric fencer to reduce a wind factor...

Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

Thanks; can't imagine any area to be under snow yet here and anything labeled "Mts." must be just a smaller hills for you. In fact, Palava and southern White Carpathian Mts. belongs among the hottest spots. Generally, the weater is rather inconstant than utterly bad. For all me, nevermind,...

Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

I visited eight places in Southern and Eastern Moravia in just two days: • Sirotčí hrádek (Orphan castle) in Klentnice, Palava Mts. - to see large Chequered Blue populations • Obora Bulhary (Bulhary Preserve), Milovicky Wood, Palava Mts. - to see large Clouded Apollo populations • Pohansko Castle wi...

Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

A couple of days ago I found a new species for my village (and the whole square) during my second transect walk - Cupido decoloratus (Eastern Short-tailed Blue). According my last year's diary, with 1.030 ex. Cupido argiades it will be a real hell to single them out - using net seems to be a must. S...

Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

Some worst photos with various mistakes: Queen of Spain and Mallow Skipper from May 9 "polyxena trip" and Chequered Skipper fairly common around my village. Seems to be on flight at least since yesterday, so if anyone of you watched/compared closely last two years' first palaemon photos of...

Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

And what about Padat jako Němci do krytu? Can you equal this one by your version? :D Also, did you know how to annoy (The Annoying) Czech ? Anyway, I'd recommend butterfly vacation in southern/eastern Moravia to anyone, since it covers (from Podyji to extensive pastures of Wallachia) a rich variety ...

Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

Lovely pictures, Marek! And it sounds a lovely place. Those southern festoon pictures are really beautiful. I'm also intrigued by your comment, 'I wish Dutchman pipe to strike foot around my village once'! :?: Maybe I'm being stupid but I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about and would ...

Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

I recently visited Medlanecke Hills , Brno and Devicky Chateau , otherwise known as Devin , Pavlov, Palava Mts . (both South-western Moravia). Probably one of the greatest places I have ever seen: http://www.apartmany-palava.cz/files/Obrazky/_P4O5777.jpg (Borrowed photo; strongly reminds me of Italy...

Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

That Map image is worthy of any publication, Marek. Stunning stuff. That one's not perfect either :D Today's butterflying degenerated into Swallowtailing. I started late, after 4 p.m, seeing Swallowtail sucking the mud and maybe partly hilltoping before I left the car (and later two others, similar...

Showing with Camberwell Beauty included is never a poor showing

By the way, Chequered Blue has even partial third brood in good years in southern CZE - weird. Quite a rare animal.

Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

Unfortunately, the weather is too unpredictible to run south for Festoons and so on. On the other hand, I could surprise Orange Tip males more easily, waiting for the short sunny moments after the last rain drops. The black flies of unknown origin (for me) has been pretty calm and numerous after the...
