Re: Summer 2014 Competition

For the record, my favourite shot was Neil’s Adonis Blue (how did that only make 4th!? That could be caused by bad light and especially bad iso (although the butterfly itself is OK). Adrian Kennerley's Adonis Blue has exaggerated PP and worst composition, but looks better in my eyes, since I consid...

Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

Postprocessing one of the last this year's photos I realized I shot Dusky Large Blue individuals every signle year. This is how I improved :) Can't take them off the Burnet though! They tend to love Burnets just as I do love spaghetti. Sandy sunset bokeh is partly a succes indeed :D modrasek_bahenni...

Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

Thank you very much, I do believe I might make a Croatian hattrick in 2015, driving three consecutive years to the sea in a nearly 20-yrs-old car :)

Re: The Last British Large Copper Butterfly.

These articles written by various disparologists sounds to me like a fairy tale (with a bitter end) with all those charismatic historical maps, sketches, many forgotten butterfly collectors or butterfly lovers, last record drama and so on. I've always liked stories from your old times :) Living surr...

Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

This year's diary is almost complete except one issue - a really crazy July/August 6-day trip to Premantura, Croatia Having only one sentence available, I'd describe Premantura as an overlooked, (formerly) fishing village less spoiled with tourists as usual, at the end of nowh... Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

(With a little help of my friends) I discovered another three new species for my neighbourhood (faunistic square) - all in Fall. The species I'm talking about are Small Blue (July 27), High Brown Fritillary (July 27) and third generation Weaver's Fritillary documented below (August 30). Today, first...

Re: Map sighting near Swanage

A few minor things from the continent: - the Map is highly mobile, colonised Netherlands in 15 years (meaning a spread of 20 km per year). - at present the speed of expansion in Finland seems to be around 600 km in 10 years (so 60 km per year), though some might have come from the east. - we now ha...

Re: Andy Brown

The truth is I worked with Central European know-how and counted with some visible differences betwen our argus vs. idas-argyrognomon (those two always have to be genitalized here, which is kind of unpleasant as idas is considered to be CR, whereas argyrogmon is locally common). And as far as I know...

Re: Map sighting near Swanage

Btw, I just returned home and 3rd brood of Maps clearly seems to be on the wing, and not 2nd brood (that was pretty and solitary mild this year), those are already dead, obviously. Could be those too in UK, but, of course, I know nothing about number of broods in Northern France. (And if the animals...

Re: Map sighting near Swanage

Hehe, I faced a pretty much similar debate with some Slovaks (that really suck in nature conservation/exploration and tend to focus on collectors instead of what really matters, eg. proper site management) also overreacting about the collectors, nets, etc., and rather decided not to comment anything...

Re: Marek (The Annoying Czech)

Hi, I most probably mistook the British names. Anyway, it's obviously Argynnis aglaja female. Argynnis adippe is not even listed below - hasn't been found. (But I've seen app. 3 ex. today. :) )
