Large Tortoiseshell in March? Challenge accepted, although the Spring didn't arrive here yet.

Re: A Bulgarian Spring.

I can't believe there's only one location with "Duskies" in the whole Bulgaria. Anyway, good website for such a "forgotten" country. Great data coverage.

Re: A Bulgarian Spring.

I am with you on the sudden appearance of species, they do seem to turn up overnight. The Map butterflies were the most obvious. From zero to many in the wink of an eye. Are they migrating, if so where from? Maybe they are just dormant and appear when the weather reaches a certain temperature. (and...

Re: A Bulgarian Spring.

Hey, Mr. Bulgarian! I'm a 'continental European' too and I'm yearly having that Map Butterfly Spring outbreak as well  (Followed by Brimstones and Chequered Skippers that I really don't know from where the hell they suddenly came.) Nice photos, and damn you to hell for having those Festoons...

Re: Queen of Spain Fritillary - Favourite Photo of 2011

I actually have my "backup Queen of Spain" - since one imago lived right behind my house for nearly a month, I had tonns of time for a proper photo and we eventually became friends . I strongly believe the friendship was based on my delicious sweat. I'm also offering to anyone interested m...

Queen of Spain Fritillary - Favourite Photo of 2011

I'm trying to reduce anarchy and mess in my 2011s photos and saving this lovely imago for the time to come, not to end up in rubbish as 97% of content. Maybe it's a good time to start up the Queen related thread  Ohh, Vince M. will certainly kill me :D This is also an one of my 'goodbye, sweet...

Re: Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro Olympus

THANKS :!:

It looks incredibly cheap. Or incredibly worn. It costs 400 - 450 GBP here in the Third World market :D

Oh, time to get used to eBay.

Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro Olympus

Hi there, I'm intending to buy Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro Olympus for my Olympus E-450 for some time. It's such a rare stuff so I have to search it more worldwide. So that your tips with a good (cheap) buy are most welcomed, bazaar or brand-new. Also, feel free to offer me any alternative solutio...

Re: How close do I need to be with 18-55 kit lens?

After all-season butterflying with (very cheap) 14-42 mm kit for Olympus took the view that • it's truly a disaster for shooting Emperors (generally first butterflies to be frightened away from the ground; "teleobjective-friendly branch species; highly intolerable to close approach / your shado...

Re: Czech Republic - foothills of the Beskydy Mountains.

Let there be light! Although I failed in realizing some plans, 2011 season was a hugely successful butterfly comeback for me. And a great pleasure too. Some of the reasons: • I maintained focused from April to late September with peak from June to August '11 • Created a 60-paged document of local bu...

http://img847.imageshack.us/img847/2192/zlutasekresetlakovy.jpg I find Mr. Gonepteryx the worst "model" of all species I got into touch with. However, with the lemon-coloured males calmly sitting on the ground, is the contrast and the whole situation much better. The species is available ...

I'm somehow hoping to see Gread Banded Grayling finally in my village.

Thanks for your butterfly tour over the France, Roger.

I see there a very strong Alpine aspect that I generally have to spare.

Which species are you going to chase now? What about that Dusky Large Blue? :D

Re: butterflies in Poland

Hells bells! Another Slavonian in the forums! Dzien dobry :D I clearly see Poland list of butterflies is far more similar to Czech one than the UK butterfly fauna. Even in case of such out-of-the-way corner of Poland. Saving some more cryophylic or eastern species (Argynnis laodice, Carterocephalus ...
