Re: Small yellow Butterfly query

Visited Eyarth rocks today( near Ruthin) to check out flight of Pearl Bordered Fritillary. They enjoyed 20 degree conditions with clear skies and were numerous and for once, to be seen over the whole area. They always do well after cold winters! Also in flight were Cinnabar moths and a small yellow ...

Pearl Bordered Fritillary

Visited Jones Rough south of Oswestry today 6th May . PBF's are on the wing along with plentiful speckled woods, green veined whites, orange tips and green hairstreak. Strange to see narcissi still flowering alongside blackthorn and hawthorn.

Re: Another sad case - is this on the rise?

If you are in the Queens Park area of Chester at the moment and you spot me in my garden wielding my trusty net, please do not abuse me. I have been trying to capture for id purposes, what must be a brown hairstreak which appears so infrequently that I have misspent four or five hours this week in t...

Re: Another sad case - is this on the rise?

I agree wholeheartedly with your comments regarding the removal of P Macheon larvae from an environment of precarious existence. I however, I take exception to your negative view of us ' netters' . I have used a net for over 50 years and it is now more use to me , given the advancing years. I can ta...

Visit to Rye Harbour tues 23rd Aug

Clouded Yellow seen in head rows around maize fields. In 20 minute transect saw 18 . Noticed gulls wheeling above and in feeding mode. When I focused on the sky , the clouds of flying ants could be seen sweeping in as if from the continent. There were such large numbers that at a couple of hundred f...

Silver Spotted Skipper in North Shropshire

21427 Today I was reviewing photos taken over the last few weeks and came upon this of what is clearly a Silver Spotted Skipper. It was taken near Oswestry in Shropshire whilst I was checking out Silver Washed Fritillary activity on the 9th of July. At the time, I did not pay it much attention thin...

Re: Eyarth Rocks

Have visited Eyarth Rocks each week since late April and the observations have been few . The first P B Frits were observed in 2nd week of May....only two sightings. Only Green-Veined Whites on reserve last week and would normally see Lattice moths at this time of year but no specimens noted. Howeve...

Silver-Washed Fritillary in North Shropshire

I have spent the last two mornings wandering around Llynclys Common Nr Oswestry. Yesterday I caught sight of one of the larger fritillaries flying fast up into and around trees. The clouding sky put a stop to id-ing the species. Today in brilliant sunshine, I was surprised to come across a patch of ...
