Re: August 2013

North Wiltshire near Cricklade After a morning hard at it on the computer, as rain cleared and the sun came out I decided to go for a walk around our farm. Visited the spot where I saw a Clouded Yellow fly past last week so decided to go hunting in the clover..... After a bit saw 2 white butterflies...

Re: August 2013

A quick lunchtime walk around from home bought up a Clouded Yellow in Waterhay Chancel graveyard N Wilts. It didn't stop but flew right in front of me and up over the hedge. A superb view. No common Blues yet. 9 other species counted in one spot on water mint near R. Thames, including Red Admirals w...

Re: June 2012

Work took me Exmoor direction so I had a look in Bin Combe for Heath Frits and was rewarded with 4. A new species for me! Very pleased as I've visited several times (in sub optimal weather) and not found them in the past. Much lighter than I expected and more Glanville like than I thought, no where ...

Re: May 2012

Had a quick look at Branscombe yesterday focusing on the Wood White. A glorious day. As always happens just when I was going to give up (car parking running out) I spotted 2 males spiralling around each other and followed them along the path (definitely wood whites as I could keep up with a gentle w...

Re: Aish Tor

I saw my first HBs at Aish Tor last year on 1st of June. Very active nearly impossible to chase and photograph! It's also great for green hairstreaks and graylings later on. As for dunsford the HBs have definitely gone. It's a very well visited site.

Re: April 2012

15th April one lovely fresh Pearl Boardered Fritilary at Castle Drogo. Not really expected and not actually on a butterflying mission so an excellent bonus. 17th AprilAfter writing off the day butterfly wise, as I was passing Wellington the rain stopped and the sun was strong so I had a quick look a...

Re: April 2012

First Wall of the year for me this morning. Basking and fluttering around behind Tescos on the edge of Exeter right next to the cycle path and dual carriage way. Have found them in other spots along this dual carriage way last year but not here and not this early.

Re: September 2011

A 40 minute visit to Orley Common, Ipplepen today yielded meadow browns, the odd faded gatekeeper, lots of speckled wood, Common Blues, a dull but busy Silver Washed Frit and a splendid Brown Hairstreak. The goal of the visit was to try and spot Brown Hairstreaks so I was chuffed when just as I was ...

Woodbury Common East Devon

Hi Folks, I've been searching hard for the Silver Studded Blues at East Budliegh Common, Bicton Common and Bystock with no luck. Am I too late now? When's the best period at these sites? It has however turned up lots of Grayling, and a really nice fresh Green Hairstreak last week which surprised me....

Re: April 2011

Had a quick lunchtime trip to Buckland Wood today. Happened to met some BC members leaving who pointed me in the right direction to the Dukes, but actually from the description on the other thread would have found them. Saw 4 plus Dukes at any one time at one spot. Also saw Red Admiral, Peacock, lot...

Re: Duke of Burgundy

I was at Buckland Wood on the 29th at 12.30 and saw at least 4 individual Dukes at one spot. I went to the 2 other area where they are meant to be and may have seen one at one spot but cant confirm. Very lovely butterflies and very tame.

Mother Shipton or Dingy Skipper

Hi,
Spotted what I thought was a Dingy Skipper this afternoon on the edge of Woodbury Common, East Devon, on a wooded bridleway. Got home and am now unsure?
Sorry its not a great photo!
Thanks
Andy
