Help with ID ?Moth, Clearwing

Can anyone help ID this creature please. The body markings appear similar to some clearwings however, the antennae seem longer, adding to my confusion.

Langdon Hills, Willow park. Saw about fifteen Meadow brown, 10 Common Blue, 1 Comma, 8 Speckled Wood, a five spot Burnet, a Small Heath, and with almost every step in the meadow I disturbed several Burnet Companions totalling scores. I had to share the beauty below. I couldn't believe my luck in se...

Unknown Butterfly/Moth

Can anyone help ID this creature. It looks like a Butterfly to me. I've looked at my books and various internet resources and can find nothing to clarify it. It is (admittedly) a rather ragged specimen, making wing outline mistakable. I wonder if it is aberrant? Thanks for looking.

Just had a lovely picnic in Willow Park, Langdon hills. Loads of Moths disturbed as we walked through the meadow. Saw a Brimstone, 5 Speckled Wood, and the one below. Having trouble with ID, best guess Gatekeeper.

Re: May 2011

Thanks Guy. I'm doing my best, using four guides and the UK butterfly conservation pics, but novices like me are bound to have problems I guess. My poor point and shoot has been doing overtime these past few months. Considering the subject matter, I'm quite pleased with the results on the whole.

Re: May 2011

You guys realize that I'm going to spend the whole season asking for confimation/ID of my butterflies! Here's another. I think it's a female green veined white. Captured at Langdon Hills, Willow park. Not as sharp as I would have liked, but it wouldn't sit still for more than a couple of seconds. Al...

Re: May 2011

Wicken Fen yesterday, windy and dull much of the time. Only two single sightings, Speckled wood and Red Admiral. Moved on to Anglesey Abbey where I saw the Butterfly below. Being relatively new to this I would like confirmation of the species/sex. It looks like a Wood white with its rounded forewing...

Re: May 2011

This (I think female) Holly Blue was sitting on my Forsythia bush for some time this afternoon, enabling a number of shots with both my point and shoot and my daughter's Fuji S1800.

Re: May 2011

Just returned from a lovely walk in Langdon Hills. Luckily at the end of my walk I saw this obliging Grizzled Skipper who posed for about a minute before deciding to move on. Also saw a speckled wood, three male Orange tips and about ten females. Rich Grizzled skipper Langdon Hills May 8th 2011 (7)....

This Beautiful Comma obliged me by sunning itself on a horse Chestnut tree on the bank of the Mayenne river. Comma Mayenne.jpg And this one was found resting in a Butterfly reserve "Parc" in Fougeres. Before cropping the picture it was easy to see how well it's camouflaged at rest. Comma F...

Re: Mayenne, France

All week I was chasing the Butterfly below in the belief that it was a White. I may be be wrong, so please step in and correct me, but I now think it is a female orange tip. It would make sense as the little beauties would not sit still for more than a second or two, but kept darting up and around t...
