Re: june 2011
The best day in a long while for photography but currently in a bit of a lull between the spring and summer species in my local spots. Optimistically I went looking for Dark Green Frits but found none yet and the knapweed seems a bit suppressed around here. But I did find one and took the opportunit...
Re: Tics
I've never been bitten yet, touch wood, but I've become paranoid about these things after reading all the horror stories. I now carry a pair of O'Tom Tick Twisters in my camera bag, which I hope to never need! That's my approach, plus trousers which I can see the blighters on and tucked into my soc...

Re: April 2011 competition
So someone who attracts less votes, and gets far less points can win, hmm sounds a bit like the Lib Dem push AV. Regards Gruditch Hehe what a bad example to choose. The system where more people vote against the eventual winner is exemplified by recent FPTP performance, not by AV. In AV the wi...

Re: flight pics
Mostly out of experimental interest, I managed to get these two which I was quite pleased about in April and more recently this Bordered Bee Hawk moth (not sure if it's narrow or broad). But it's just for fun and as a record shot in the case of the moth. I have no clue how to set the camera up to us...

Re: Flash synchronisation
I'm not a Canon shooter, but: Are you talking on- or off-camera flash? If off-camera using wireless signalling, I understand it won't do high speed sync (HSS), so if your aperture is wide enough that HSS is required (shutter speed faster than 1/250s for the 60D, I think), it presumably won't work. ...

Re: Green Hairstreak egg laying?
I wondered whether it's possible that females continue to go through the motions of egg laying even though they've already deposited all their eggs? They certainly do - a phenomenon known as "oviposturing" (a term first coined by Guy Padfield, which fits the bill perfectly!) as mentioned ...

Is your first MF shot within the normal variance or an aberration? EDIT - Ignore, I just saw your other post.

Yes, to be honest I think the PBF was a stray from nearby Bentley Wood, although I've yet to check with the site's butterfly historian to see if there is a history of it there.David M wrote:

Green Hairstreak egg laying?
Hi all I managed to get some video of a Green Hairstreak apparently egg laying, but on inspection of the plants afterwards I couldn't see any eggs. I didn't have my hand lens with me so may have missed them but I could easily see some Duke of Burgundy eggs after watching a female lay in a nearby spo...

Re: April 2011
Had a great day out yesterday, an early-ish visit to Martin Down where we saw Speckled Wood, Orange Tip, Grizzled Skipper, Green Hairstreak, Small Copper, Brimstone, Peacock, and frantic Holly Blues. The curious thing was where I saw most Green Hairstreaks last year there weren't any this year (or I...

Wurzel: Fantastic images Zonda! How do you get the photos larger when you upload them? Thanks for the praise. I use an intermediate web picture host Picasa (free) where i dump all of my pics. Picasa lets you choose from four different sizes when you upload to a site. I don't use the largest option,...

Re: Looking for Green Hairstreaks
I've been looking for a season and a half Nicola. I'm not convinced they even exist. I think that all the photos of sightings are Green veined Whites, altered in Photoshop. Every time i see a GH sighting from anywhere, i fume with frustration. Please don't take me too seriously. Frank in Dorset. :(...

Re: Sigma 150mm f2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro Lens
Its got the same RRP as your 150-500 Zonda, £999. The best price I can see on the web for that is £589.00, so I recon the 150 os will drop quite a bit soon. Hope their a bit sturdier than the flipping flimsy old 150. :x Regards Gruditch Which reminds me did you ever get the autofocus switch working...
