Re: April 2012

Saw my first Orange Tip of the year yesterday at Skylarks reserve at Holme Pierrenport, Nottingham.
Was unexpected as the weather was poor and I'd only gone out for an hour after a family lunch. It was the only butterfly seen but lots of Chiffchaffs.

Re: March 2012

Oh what a glorious day. An early afternoon stroll (in shorts :D ) through the Lincolnshire Limewoods produced my first butterflies of the year - three Brimstone and a Peacock.
Home to see England beat France and now the moth traps on............. oh joy.

Re: Back Garden Moth Community

Tis back :D

Yes Richard have looked at GMS. Didn't get my trap until late last year so there was no point but will sign up for the forthcoming season.

Got a new copy of Enjoying Moths the other day so am wetting my appetite for some mothing and butterflying.

Back Garden Moth Community

Hope this is not inappropiate.
I got into mothing seriously last year and found the above web site invaluable for advice and identification.
Recently I haven't been able to access this site. Does anyone know if it has closed down or what is happening to it?

Many thanks,

Hugh

Re: Joining a Camera Club

Thanks. Have been a member of a club like Jacks and will probably remain in it unless I fall out with myself :D My local club will allow a few 'look see ' visits. I consider myself fairly competent and well beyond the beginner stage. However, as with most things worth doing, there is still much to l...

Re: Joining a Camera Club

Nick and others,

I am seriously thinking of joining my local club. I know they all differ but would be interested in your opinions of the value of joining. I am fairly new to DSLR's but have used film for 50+ years.

Thanks,

Hugh

Re: Winter Jolly (East)

Doesn't seem to be much interest. Would there be interest in a summer trip? I like the idea of the photography workshop but it is a long way to travel. We should be able to arrange a days butterflying with a bit of photography on the side. Guess we need to decide when and where and who might be inte...

Seven Red Admirals brightened up a blustery and almost birdless morning today at Gibraltar Point.

Re: October 2011 sightings

A pleasant hour with my 5 year old grandson at Chambers Wood this afternoon produced a single Painted Lady and several Peacocks, Red Admirals and Small Coppers.

Re: The One Show (Large Blue) 12th Sept

The One Show certainly seems to have more good nature bits than Countryfile nowadays.
Nice piece on strawberry spiders tonight.
The Large Blue bit was good - I particularly enjoyed hearing Jeremy Thomas.

Re: A Chat with Richard Lewington

Thanks for a lovely article about a lovely man. I have been fortunate to have chatted with him at many Birdfairs. I too was shown a page from the much awaited tome.

Thanks also for the link to his website.
