Re: My Clouded Yellows Cadiz
David - Yes they were in motion Chris, - Just use my fz150 & the female helice, I see was on macro setting full zoom & camera decided on 1/1600 sec. The female CY & last shot with two, was on the speed setting @ 1/1000 sec. Checking those details surprised me that the macro setting came ...

My Clouded Yellows Cadiz
A pleasant walk across the city to the garden overlooking the sea. Lots of butterflies & 100's of Red-veined Darter df's. I note the female spots on Chris's Norhampton ones are different to the ones in UKB species album but same as this one in Cadiz. P1390466 clouded yellow female.jpg P1390490 C...

Re: Gibraltar Swallowtail type?
Many thanks Guy, I knew you would come up trumps
David, thanks for commenting, I would have loved to spend more time there as the garden had quite a few butterflies. I did rather better @ Cadiz as wife could not walk ashore there & hope to post a few more photos when I have sorted them out

Gibraltar Swallowtail type?
On a recent cruise round Iberia I was granted 20 minutes to dash round Alameda garden Gibraltar while my wife sat on a seat by entrance! Saw several butterflies ic Monarch & some whites & managed this poor distant shot high up in a tree, any id please?

Re: August 2013
This afternoon after the rain ceased I went back to Choseley Barns field. Still up to 8 Clouded Yellows flying up & down the headland. Managed to get closer to one resting after all that flying on a dried seed head. Also almost managed to get some open wing shots. Good to see them domiciled in N...

Re: Are we due for a Clouded Yellow year?
They have finally turned up on North Norfolk coast. Yesterday (14th) I counted around 8 along a flowered headland at the well know birding site of Choseley barns & also managed a record shot of a ringtail Hen Harrier & a poorish part open wing shot of a CY, not many morings come better than ...
Re: July 2013
Large numbers of silver-studded blues @ Kelling Heath today. More than I have ever seen before, every track both side of road seemed to have some. Too tired to sort out my photos tonight after a hectic few days but must take advantage of a bit of fine weather. We have waited long enough for it! Eric
Glapthorne, bedford purlieus, Hills & holes, Castor Hangland
Did a good tour today. Arr Glapthorne @ 10.45, 3/4 Blacks Hairstreaks intermittently on 3rd track, two of them with bits out of wings. Tried Bedford Purlieus, no SWF's of WLH's showing yet plenty of meadow browns. Barnack hills & holes had 5/6 flighty Marbled White so only got a distant shot. Th...

Re: Fermyn Woods / Glapthorn Cow Pasture
If you go back from track opp gliding club to the Oundle - Corby road, turn left to Lower Benefield & in village at bottom of hill is a sharp right turn to a "gated/ cattle grid" road that is a short cut to very near Glapthorne Cow Pasture wood. After woods entry, 3rd track on right of...
Re: June 2013
Yesterday 26th with a sunny day at last I travelled up to Chambers Farm wood. Found 3 Marsh frits in good condition. 1 Dingy skip, 1 Brimstone & 3 Meadow brown. Today not so lucky at Glapthorne, just distant views of 1 BH high in blackthorne & no photos. Eric 5g Marsh frit.jpg 5h marsh frit ...
Re: June 2013 at last a bit of warmth in Norfolk
Took a chance on weather forecast today to visit Strumshaw. Windy AM & not overly warm so nothing flying. PM sun came out & it warmed up considerably. Trotted off down the lane towards the Doctors gdn & first found the Norfolk Hawker DF, then 3 Swallowtails in the garden & reports of...

Great photo's Neil from Wyre F, wish I had known about all the PBF's a couple of days earlier as I would have come up to see them this w/e. Too far for a day trip (330 miles round trip) know the area well as did a lot of courting there years ago, Wife is from Bewdley & in fact was raised until s...
Re: June 2013
Out yesterday after a few bird rarities, I entered a hide & saw a pair of Brimstones fluttering about in the grass. Fired off a few speculative shots with camera to hand (fz150 + Sony TC) & although out of focus as only set on 1/800 sec it did show me a speculative view of open wings. Still ...
Re: May 2013
Checked out Foulsham common (Norfolk) today on way back from Lakenheath's Red footed Falcon, also Stone Curlews @ Weeting heath. No grizz skips seen by me but one was seen but another visitor (saw the photo). Did see 2 small coppers & around 3 Brimstone. Eric

Re: May 2013
After 2 weeks in wet, windy, cold, snowy Scotland it was good to get out in Norfolk today with green leaves on the trees & lots of blossoms out! Spec wood &small white & LR damsels @ Holme village. NWT & NOA produced several small whites & spec woods + at least 3 green hairstreak...

Interesting, from what you have posted it looks a better selection of species than I saw on my visit to a comparable place near Sheffield. Eric
