Lang's short-tailed Blue or ??
Our December cruise stopped @ Madeira for the only sunny day we had in all 12 days! I made the cardinal error of going ashore in a rush & not taking a spare camera battery, consequently very few wildlife or flower photos taken. Did manage what I think is a Maderian Banded Bee & after a bit o...

Re: Holiday to Tenerife part 5
You did a lot better than I did on Gomera. Did the panorama & valley of Kings tour on Dec 11th & saw no wildlife or Butterflies at all in cold cloudy weather. Enjoyed your reports. Eric

Re: Natural World - The appeal of Butterflies
Somehow I missed this post yesterday but was up in time to flick through channels & find it in time to see 2nd half. Then went to "catch up" on Sky & watched the whole programme again, enjoyable way to start a dull December sunday. Eric

Re: October 2014
This afternoon (Oct 11th) in Holme village Norfolk I had a mating pair of Wall Brown's, fresh female & male a little worn. Yesterday in Holme dunes a very fresh mating pair of Common Darters. Seems fresh females are still emerging after this good summer we have had. Eric

Re: September 2014 Wall Brown 27th Holme dunes
This afternoon I saw 4 very fresh male Wall Browns @ Holme dunes NWT on Norfolk coast. I assume these could be 3rd brood rather than late 2nd brood as Neil has already described good numbers of 3rd brood on south coast. Eric

Re: September 2014
My brother reports seeing White Admiral on three consecutive days at the site close to Hickling Broad (Norfolk) - yesterday he confirmed seeing two different individuals. Liz That is interesting Liz because on Monday I thought I saw one fluttering away fast in Ken Hill wood Snettisham, a known good...

Re: September 2014 worn Painted Lady
7y P1630105 Worn Painted Lady.jpg I have seen nearly as many Painted Ladies here on Norfolk coast in last 3 days as I have seen all year so far. Maybe last weeks easterly winds brought some in. This worn looking specimen was in my garden today, most of the orange scales are gone but otherwise seems...

?? easiest place for Lulworth Skipper next w/e?
We are in Bournemouth 1,2 & 3 August for our "Emerald" anniversary she tells me (The Ladies will know how many that is). I am being allowed 2 hours to find & photography my last butterfly on UK list, namely the Lulworth Skipper. Bearing in mind my wife does not do wildlife & wi...

Re: My FZ150
Hi again Chris, I checked the details for the Valesina SWF I posted in July sightings last week just to make sure I was right. It was full zoom in Macro with minus 0.33ev set by me & camera chose iso 100 & speed of 1/400. hope this helps. the butterfly was fluttering about & I took lots ...

Re: My FZ150
I use 2 fz150's, one has a old Sony 1758TC permanently attached for birding etc. That is usually set in good light @ the 5.5/sec -0.33ev & S mode @ 1/1000th, works for me most of the time. Your BF shot would have been taken by me on the other camera without a TC. Almost certainly set on macro @ ...

Went to Kelling Heath today. Silver studded blues were in fairly good numbers. I was reliably informed they started emerging last Monday, a full 18 days earlier than last year. Photo attached of mating pair. Eric

Neil your walk to the Mill & meadows was more than I could mange after 350 miles drive from Scotland, had to stick to the railway line on Sunday. I would have liked to see the Tiger beetles & gloworm larvae but did see the Speckled Yellow moth. Eventually saw approx a dozen PBF's around Bugl...
