Hi , thats a Peacock Butterfly you have, probably looking for somewhere to hibernate, they usually find a quiet spot in the shed/garage/coalhole :D

Thanks for your positive feedback Denise, the wee beastie must have been hibernating in the house somewhere as it appeared in our hall this spring! Have to blame a schoolmate and a teacher from school in the 70's for my love of insects! We had an insect club at school and ran a moth trap weekly, it ...

Took these earlier this year, if you look in the shed,garage,local cave,you might come across one or two hibernating. I know its not a butterfly, but a beauty non the less.

Felix, Paul Whetton and I have both taken photographs of a Common Blue Female abberation. We took them at different sites and a year or so apart, mine at Upton Fen Norfolk, and Paul's at Aston Rowant. Hi, try a visit to Coombs Dale not far from Chatsworth. Saw quite a few Dk Gn Fritt this year. Also good for Gn Hstreak, Brimstone, Wall, Bwn Argus. Only a small dale but lots to see at the right time

Thanks Paul, didn't get to see underside on the one I saw, it cleared off after Its picture was taken and I didnt fancy venturing off the boardwalk and disappearing into the fen!

Hi, I'm a relative newcomer to the Forum. I have been into insects since childhood (cant remember when that was! ). Took this picture in 2009 whilst Dragonflying in Norfolk and hadnt realised that it was a bit different to the normal Common blue at the time. Is this an abberation ? thanks in anticip...
