Pupa ID

Hi,
Spotted this freshly formed Pupa today on a Knapweed. I’m thinking Small or Green Veined White but not sure. Any confirmation welcome.

Bugboy, Absolutely love those SPBF photos. Such an elegant species. I paid my first visit to Park Corner Heath the year before Covid and found them.

Brampton Woods - 11th June 2022 I took a trip into Cambridgeshire in search of Black Hairstreak. The location was the lovely Brampton Wood near Huntingdon. This was my first visit to the wood, so it took a while to get my bearings and find the rides where they hang out. Once I had, there were good ...

Re: Kev Ling

We have been blessed once more with some egg laying Orange Tips in our garden. Garlic Mustard never fails to entice them. They take some tracking and move very quickly once ready to pupate, but perseverance paid off and we now have some pupa. We witnessed an Orange Tip emerging from it’s ovum. Excuse...

Re: essex buzzard

Hi Essex, great photos from Bison Hill. Especially the Duke framed by the rapeseed field. We missed each other by a day. I paid my first visit to the site the day before and what a treat. I too found Green Hairstreaks to be plentiful, seeing c20 on the day (my biggest single haul by a country mile)....

David,

A fantastic start to your Pyrenees diary, especially the Two Tailed Pashas. I will never forget my first encounter with this species. A true heavyweight species.

David, Congratulations on finding your surprise SPBF. The same thing happened to me in Snowdonia in 2018. I had just started my climb up Snowdon, when a fresh SPBF settled next to me on the bracken. I was beaming all the way to the summit. People must have wondered what I was on. Kind Regards ...

Lovely images from the Rhône valley, Guy.
I especially love the Provençal short-tailed blue in copulation. Just like Wurzel, the Chequered Blue is a species high on my list too.
Look forward to more reports.

Thanks Wurzel and Guy, I couldn’t let spring pass without a few photos of my favourite species, the Orange Tip. 8th June 2022 - Bison Hill, Bedfordshire Having only ever seen a single Duke of Burgundy in my life (at Bentley Wood a few years ago), it had long been on my butterfly bucket list to visit the Chilterns and see them. So at last, a friend and I took a visit to Bison Hill, on the Dunstable Downs last...
