Re: A UK Butterfly Calendar 2009

I'll wait for Gruditch to sort out the photo's and when that done it should be pretty striaght forward. Hi Shirley, Don't worry about Gruditch and Sussex Kipper - they'll simply get you the photos as chosen by them and whoever they rope in to help them. Pete I see you made your mind up, Shirley. Go...

Re: Common Blue Question.

What a splendid, conciliatory post, Roger! I'm afraid I come into the "glass of wine too many" category once in a while, and I apologise if I have caused offence to any on this forum. Perhaps you should be the forum counsellor, Roger? I mean, it's not as if your photography is any good. Da...

Re: What makes a winning photograph?

...I have served my apprenticeship in the UK, some three decades trekking around Devon, Dorset and Wiltshire and many other places, and now live in France for the six summer months where I can indulge my passion every day. It’s good – try it. I accept that a non-UK butterfly will never win because ...

...And that reminds me of some little story of whether he was a man dreaming he was a butterfly or a butterfly dreaming he was a man. Anyone come across that cos I can't remembe rthe context now? Lynn, you may have seen it in "An Obsession with Butterflies" by Sharman Apt Russell (William...

Lycaena dispar, being the scientific name for the extinct Large copper and an anagram of "any arid places".

I guess this was a bit obscure.

I'll get me coat :)

Felix,

Would this be the wholesale removal of scrub from the chalk grassland of southern England? Especially, in cases such as the Poldens, where this has happened in an attempt to support the reintroduction of the Large Blue?

Re: Butterflies of Var, Southern France

I'm enjoying this thread tremendously! Thanks for the wonderful photos, Roger; also Guy, for that exposition and close-up of the silver line. The Red-underwing skipper has gone to the top of my 'must see one day' list. It may be France's smallest, but that's one laid-back dude of a butterfly! Any id...

What a splendid competition this month! Thank you for the feedback, Roger. What a feat of diplomacy! You have been particularly kind to some of us also-rans and ne'er-do-wells! Well done to the those on the podium - I think this has been the hardest monthly competition to vote on to date. I would li...
