Hi I found these very young larvae today sitting in a big patch of nettles IMG_7308_2011.jpg IMG_7308_close up.jpg and just assumed they were Small Tortoiseshell but on checking on the species photos these look much lighter in colour so now I am not so sure. Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks Rich

Thanks for the ID. The other small skippers I've seen all seemed to have much lighter coloured bodies so I wasn't quite sure what I was looking at.

Hi All I took this today near Leicester on a site where I've seen lots of large and small skippers (and possibly some essex skippers too) - this was the only skipper I came across today and I'm not sure whether this is just a well weathered specimen or if it is something different. Any ideas? Ta Rich
