The picture below was taken in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence at the Col de la Cayolle (2360m). I think it's either Shepherd's or Mountain but I'm unclear which (and, of course, I may well be wrong on both counts!). Any insight gratefully received.

Re: French Pyrgus ID Help Needed
The Alpine Grizzled was taken on July 6th (Col de la Cayolle). I think we went straight to the Col so that's where it would have been taken.

Re: French Pyrgus ID Help Needed
Many thanks, Roger. I'll check back through my images to try and establish altitude for 1, 2 and 4. The Alpine Grizzled is a great find as we didn't think we'd seen any at all. Any idea for the Erebia?
Thanks again.

Thanks Chris. Having done some more research I think 2 and 5 may be Safflower, but I'm far from sure.

I would have thought it would have been better to go through the Facebook settings with his friend and show her how she can tighten up her Facebook access. Or is that too simple (bearing in mind I don't have a Facebook account)?

Hi Bugboy,
Thanks for the ID. What put me off the Keeled Skimmer was yellow markings down the body but an immature one would be on the money.
Cheers,
Kevin.

Dragonfly ID Needed
I know some who use the UKB forums are knowledgeable about dragonflies so here's one that has me puzzled. The picture was taken yesterday near Corfe Castle in Dorset. The nearest I can manage is an immature Scarce Chaser but I have little confidence in that ID. As usual, any assistance greatly appre...

I was fortunate to receive 1000 Butterflies and Hoskins' other book Butterflies of the World as Xmas presents. Both books are quite superb.

Hi Wilfred,
A warm welcome to UKB!
You'll find a wealth of knowledge on this site along with a group of people ever willing to help. I'm sure someone will soon Id your butterfly (I'm certainly not an Id expert).

Re: Painted Lady in my house
Hi Andrew,
Your Painted Lady won't overwinter but there really isn't much you can do other than release it when the weather improves. Buddleia is a very good nectar source for butterflies and there have been a lot of 'late' sightings of different butterflies this year.
