Am I right in thinking this is a male peacock. I only got closeups, before it warmed up and zipped off. Did not get a proper look at coloured side of wings.

I took this white butterfly 2 weeks ago at Alners Gorse.

I think it is a Green-viened white. Am I correct in my assumption ?

Which explains why I could not find it in the hairstreak section of my wild guide book.

I took this at Lydlinch Common (Dorset) in mid-May.

I'm assuming it some kind of faded hairstreak of some kind. But I can't work out which.



I'd be grateful if someone could enlighten me as to what it is.

I entered this in the July competition fairly confident that they were small blues. Now I'm not so sure. A Green-viened white. At least in the id they said they were often confused with small whites.

Unfortunately I'm still struggling with this White. I'm going to take a stab at a small white. Am I correct ?

I have seen several blues this year. And photo'd a large number, but I don't always manage to see each individual with the wings open.

Is it possible to ID blues just on their underside wings ? If so what should I look for ?

And lastly is it possible to sex them on just undersides ?
