Re: Archiving digital image files
I think I probably take too much video to store on HDD so may have to stick with the digital tapes and just back up the finished items on DVD and maybe HDD. I have a sumvision cyclone attached to my TV with a 3TB Hard drive in it and I put all my final productions on this to watch on TV without usin...

Yeah but you'll have Mountain Ringlet on DVD soon. Not trying to rub it in at all.
I'm going again for them next year. Try and find some freshly emerged examples.

Re: Archiving digital image files
I go with data backed up on 2 external HDs. Just purchased one from PC World. 2TB WD for £90. Video was mentioned earlier. I try and back up that which is currently in use or from recently produced DVD's etc but have all video on miniDV. Never re-use the tapes. Not sure how long they will last as st...

Hi Celery
Some brilliant shots.
I visited Florida in may / June time a few years ago but didn't see as many butterflies as you although I was into birds more at the time.
Very impressive photos.

I agree Lee. Absolutely stunning photos.
Either inspires a person to become more accomplished or give up altogether seeing such brilliant work.
Hopefully inspires most of us.

Re: Butterfly Snookers Ronnie O'Sullivan
I agree. Although I love Spiders, I know plenty of guys who don't.
My old boss used to be terrified of them.
Always great to stick a huge spider in his office when he annoyed me. No harm done to the spiders as he was so scared of them he'd just run away.

Re: Rearranging the garden
Hi Susie Good luck with the garden. Rather you than me in this weather. We have around 1 foot of frozen snow in the East Midlands at the moment. I am extremely envious of your garden list. I'm lucky to attract 1 or 2 passers by. I did find a passing White-letter Hairstreak towards the end of their f...

Three cheers indeed.
Having only been a member of UKB forums since earlier this year I must comment on how impressed I've been with everyone who contributes.
Everyone has been extremely helpful and friendly.
So threee cheers to all and keep it up everyone.
Have a great Christmas.

Absolutely spot on Jack.
The sensor size on my video camera is 1/3 size compared to 35mm. Although there are 3 of them stuck in there. Possibly similar size to some compact still cameras.
Cheers

Re: November Sightings
One reason I've enjoyed going back to video is the DOF is much greater than with stills. Probably due to the fact that less light is required by the video camera.
Now for the hard sell. Take a look at the video footage of my latest butterfly film at http://www.ibirdz.co.uk

Tricky subject V. icelandicus need to get your photos in quickly before they melt into the background with that superb camouflage.
Good depth of field. Did you use photo stacking?

Re: Kuwait bans DSLRs
It's an easy mistake to make Jack.
Using a video camera like a DSLR and assuming that portrait style format will work.
It's the steadyness of the footage that impressed me the most.

Re: A Butterfly Year
Hi Michael I think a good HD camcorder will do a very similar job to my XL2. This is broadcast quality but standard definition compared to standard quality with high definition. I think the lens quality is important. I can use still photography lenses on my set up including my macro lens. I used thi...

Hi Michael That was a good point you made about the menus. Re: A Butterfly Year
Hi Michael Just one point regarding your comments. There is actually a full menu on both discs which will take you to any of the species, thus allowing people to use them as reference or as an identification guide. On the start up screen there is a picture and an arrow. If you were to move your DVD ...

Re: A Butterfly Year
Hi Jack Glad to hear the package arrived safely. I thought it should be fine with all that tape. It sounds like you are enjoying the footage in the most. To be honest I could have added more habitat shots but I would have needed to put the footage on 3 discs as I almost completely filled the two I u...
