Re: Goldie M Swallow Tail

Hi Goldie I've never seen Purple Hairstreak at Arnside Knott but have seen White-leter hairstreak there. I found one on Bramble last year in one of the clearings close to the path that goes through the small wood near the top of the Knott. It's the wood towards the car park where there is a gate in ...

Re: Trip Report from North-East Spain

Great list of species with some superb photos Pete.

I'll have a closer look when I'm not at work, including the video.

Switzerland this year and possibly Spain next year after looking at this trip report.

Re: Paul Wetton

Time for some more butterfly video.

Here's some footage of Large Blue at Collard Hill taken in the second week of June last year.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzfT7NSUYKU[/video]

Hope this spurs some of you to go and have a look at Collard Hill this year.

Re: Padfield

Yes I hope we'll meet up for a couple of trips out if you have time. It's something I've been quite looking forward to. We'll be there between 26th June to 15th July. I'll PM our mobile details to you at some point and then we can get in touch when we arrive and arrange something. If you would like ...

Re: Have Butterfly-Conservation gone nuts?

I'm going to join in the moan because I tried to Join BC last year just before Christmas at their special 50% off offer. I clicked the email link only to find that it was a normal link nothing about joining. I dutifully asked the question, how do I join? No reply whatsoever. I eventually tried downl...

Re: Geographical Moan

Hi Celery Not sure why I became defensive of Notts because you are quite correct it is, pretty much, a pile of pants when it comes to wildlife of any great interest, although I,m sure my dad would disagree and find some spectacular hoverfly. Thinking about it, there are some good fungi around the Ma...

Re: Paul Wetton

Nice one Seth. I may have to have a play in photo shop over the weekend if I can't get out anywhere. Felix that looks like a great item of clothing for anyone planning to spend time in the midge infested regions north of the border. One thing that does work with midges is to keep moving. Trouble is ...

Re: Geographical Moan

Simon I spent many an hour at Bunny Old Wood in 2009 and turned up zero as you did with WLH but always presumed I was too late in the day as I only visited after work. Apparently a Purple hairstreak was found mating with a WLH a few years back and then PH supposedly colonised the wood at a later dat...

Re: Geographical Moan

Celery I'm in Nuthall over the other side of Notts. I agree there are very few places of huge interest. The only advantage is that we are situated in the centre of the country so can travel easily in any direction. Helped me to find all 58 buts this year in mainland britain. Have you tried Attenboro...

OK less of the naked, drag queens of UKB.

Maybe I should put another video on to put some more pleasant images into everyone mind.

Hi Denise

Many thanks for the kind comment.

What could possibly be worse than myself, Seth and Neil prancing about the Scottish hillsides in drag. Can't think of anything myself.

Re: Not Lepidoptera ( birds) 4

Loch Scridain is a good spot to find these beauties down on the ground early in the morning. I had two juveniles sat on rocks beside the loch on my last day on Mull a few years ago.

Good spot for otters as well.

Great photos Pete.

I'd love to have a go at time lapse with something like this using my XL2 video camera. I'll need to read up again how it works.
