Re: Sightings February 2012

With this glorious weather the sightings seem to be coming thick and fast.
I am very happy to log my first sighting of the year,in my back garden. This Comma was soaking up the sun on my summer house.

Re: Brown Argus

I have found this subject very interesting and looking into my guides it seems that the Southern BA does not occur in Greece. Therefore the attached photos taken there must either be the Northern or agestis.I do not know which, but I am sure that one of you will solve that for me. brown Argus Greece...

Butterfly ID please

I have some photos taken while on holiday in Greece last year which I am not too sure about.iI would be nice to think that they are not UK species, but my guess is that they are Common Blue and a Meadow Brown!
I am sure someone will do an Id for me please
Pics taken in May/June.

Re: Lens help please?!

I use a Nikon D80 and have a Sigma 105mm F2.8 DG Macro lens.It has AF but I never use it.There is no VR/IS but I do not think it essential,in my humble opinion that is. When I handled the equivalent Canon lens with VR/IS I must say I found the VR made it very heavy to hold compared to the Sigma. Hop...

Re: Wall - Favourite Photo of 2011

I remeber this photo very well as it was taken on Bonchurch Down,Ventnor Isle of Wight on the 9th August 2011.it was not a very nice day with a gusty wind and rather cloudy.I went looking for Adonis Blues and was not disappointed as the ABs seemed to settle at the base of the Down among the longer g...

Re: White Admiral - Favourite Photo of 2011

I reckon that the White Admiral must be one of the most elegant of British butterflies
My pic dates from the 3rd july(2010, sorry) and was taken at Firestone Copse,Wootton,on the Isle of Wight.it was a beautiful summers day and the butterflies were out in force.

I always think it special when you see a butterfly of any species in the garden and this one was in my back garden at Freshwater,Isle of Wight on the 15th October.

Re: Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro Olympus

I bought this lens on ebay and paid a bit more than that for 'used', for my Nikon.
I have been very pleased with its performance.

Re: Small Tortoiseshell - Favourite Photo of 2011

It is always a pleasure to see this butterfly on a warm sunny summer day or at any time really.
My pic was taken on the 10th June by the banks of an Isle of Wight stream on such a summers day while keeping a lookout for Beautiful Demoiselles.

Re: Small Copper - Favourite Photo of 2011

Taken on the 3rd October on a sunny early autumn day at a spot where this species is seen regularly.
The upper SC was energetically wing fluttering at the lower one.I would be very interested to know if this is a mating ritual or maybe just one telling the other to buzz-off.
