Re: March 2012

No,DMS I am sure that is not a silly question.Hopefully someone will answer that for you. Todays trip to Woodhouse Copse started a bit on the slow side for butterflies maybe due to a chilly breeze. However by 130 it had warmed up quite nicely. Still no sign of the much hoped for Large T.If any were h...

Re: March 2012

A very nice photo of that Orange Tip,Vince.one of my favourite species. A warm and sunny afternoon on the IOW and a stroll through Woodhouse Copse produced 15 Commas,3 Speckled Wood, and 2 Brimstone(one male and one female) The male was in a great hurry but the female was not, stopping at every tree c...

Re: March 2012

This time last year, that is the 23rd March, I made a visit to Compton Chine clifftop to look for Glanville Fritillary webs.Quite a few were to be seen then in a very small area just north of the Compton Bay carpark. Today I visited the same spot and found just one web.The caterpillars were on the s...

Re: March 2012

Re: Padfield

I look at the photos of the Large Tortoiseshell with obvious envy.Still the Isle of Wight has a mention here in spite of the fact that ,as yet no LT sightings. As far as I am aware anyway. The weather at our spot today was sunny ,after midday, but a chilly wind.No sign of any butterfly out and about ...

Re: March 2012

A beautiful afternoon today once the sea fog lifted.Foghorn at the Needles lighthouse going all morning.
Visit to Woodhouse Copse and feared no sightings, but eventually a Comma and then a Red Admiral both enjoying the sun.
LTs not in sight as yet.
