Re: Glanville Fritillary

Like everybody else on UKB I expect we all can't wait for the summer sun. An excellent photo by David Newland in the latest issue of the BCs ' BUTTERFLY' taken from Tennyson Down, showing the start of Glanville Fritillary country, and away to the south towards Ventnor, whets the appetite. My two very...

Re: Glanville Fritillary

The following pics were taken on the 24th June last year on Brook Down,Isle of Wight and although showing signs of wear and tear, still worth a look at that time I think.

Re: Glanville Fritillary

At that time on Bonchurch Down hopefully, you can probably see Brown Argus,Adonis Blue,Common Blue,Dingy Skipper,Green Hairstreak, and Small Copper. I am told on good authority that Small Blue have been reported between Wheelers Bay and Monks Bay,which should mean that you are in the right place at Ho...

Re: November Sightings

At Bonchurch near Ventnor on the Isle of Wight today two Red Adimals competing for the sunniest spot.Plenty of room for both though on a south facing bank of a small allotment.
A glimpse too of a Red Squirrel foraging on the ground among the trees of a nearby tearoom.

Re: please help!

I will stick my neck out on number six and go for CETHOSIA MYRINA,female.
Male is smaller and has blue near the wing and a general purpulish suffusion.
Number three shows a resemblance for DRYAS JULIA on the UKB species page.
