Re: April 2011

I was hoping to report that I had at last seen a Large Tortoiseshell at Woodhouse Copse after numerous attempts, but I am sorry to say that I failed to see one. However the Copse had its best outfit on today as it was full of spring colour, but lacking many butterflies, just a few speckled woods and sm...

Re: Opinions,please

I must thank those who have given their valued advice to me on this problem. Today I collected my camera from my local photo shop and was very happy with the result.Off at once to happily snap away. I will definately take much more care when changing lenses in the field in future,as I had recently s...

Re: Opinions,please

Opinions,please

I have noticed this problem now showing on recent photos. There seems to be marks appearing on each photo. The dark mark near to the wing of the GH and two marks on the Damselfly pic.
I would be grateful if anyone could tell me the problem and cure.

Re: April 2011

Yet another small white, in my back garden at Freshwater today, the first I have seen this year. A visit to Brook Down,to see if any early Grizzled Skippers were out proved fruitless but a first sight of cowslip cheered up a blustery and rather cloudy afternoon. The sea from the Down showed the brisk ...

Re: March 2011

What a handsome Orange Tip and excellent photos. I am very envious of all who have seen one this year.Weather has turned dismal here so i must wait to find one. Anyway i have this winter created a wildlfe pond with a somewhat small bog garden and planted among other things some cuckoo flower. So I am...

Re: March 2011

Yes,it was noticeable to me that some webs had larger caterpillars ,whereas several webs contained much smaller occupants.

Re: March 2011

On the way i stopped at the View car Park at the foot of Afton Down, excellent for small blues.green hairstreaks, grizzled and dingy skippers ,plus othe...

Re: March 2011

Inspired by Petes' Marsh Fritillary larvae and because it was such a beautiful springlike day here, I wondered whether the Glanville Fritillary caterpillars were to be seen. A five minute drive from home to Shippards Chine close to Compton Bay and within 50 yards of the carpark I came upon numerous ...

Re: March 2011

Another warm and sunny day here and two locations produced numerous Commas,4 brimstone(one female),2 peacocks and what must be a bee of some sort.no doubt someone will be able to tell me what they are called, please. The female brimstone was flitting about feeding on primrose, but stopped for a while ...

Re: March 2011

Although the Large Tortioseshell (s) seem reluctant to show themselves on the Isle of Wight for the moment, this Peacock was on hand to brighten up the woodland.
